The invasion movements carried out by the Mongols over the Balkans on the one hand and Anatolia on the other, upset the political balances between the states in these regions. One of these states is the Iznik Greek Empire, one of the heirs of the Byzantine Empire with diplomatic maneuvering capability. Iznik Greek Empire after the 1243 Kösedağ which took place in Turkey and the Seljuks defeated the War has tried to adapt to the new political balance. Mongols who consider themselves a serious threat to the Seljuks in Turkey in terms of Iznik Greek Empire Ioannes Vatatzes III. In this study, how the Mongol invasion was perceived by the Iznik Greek Empire and what kind of steps the Emperor Ioannes Vatatzes took against this invasion will be examined.
