Abstract:

The aim of this research is to study the impact of the project-based learning approach applied outside the course on the scientific process skills and attitudes of 6th grade students in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM). The study group consists of a total of 56 students studying in two different classes in a state high school in Osmaniye Province. The research was conducted in the second semester of the 2018-2019 educational year (in the spring period). One class is chosen as control (N=28), the other as experimental group (N=28). The experimental group, in addition to the existing curriculum, implemented project-based learning activities outside the school, and the control group applied only the existing curriculum. Pre-application scientific process skills and STEM attitude scale pre-test, while at the end of the application the same tests are applied as the final test. The findings from the research show that the experiment group has a higher average compared to the control group in terms of the scientific process skills and the STEM attitude scale and there is a significant difference.

The research was carried out in the second semester of the 2018-2019 academic year. In the research, semi-experimental pattern with pretest-posttest control group was used. Apart from the current curriculum, the outdoor school project-based learning approach was applied to the experimental group, and only the current curriculum was applied to the control group. Scientific process skills and STEM attitude scale were applied as pre-test and at the end of the application, the same tests were applied as post-test. Findings obtained from the study show that the experimental group has a higher average in terms of scientific process skills and STEM attitude scale compared to the control group and a significant difference has occurred.
