Introduction and Objective: breast cancer is the tumor that most affects and killing women, nowadays in Brazil. Eating a diet with high level of fat and poor in fibers food is one of the main risk factors for its development. This study aimed to evaluate the habit of consumption of these nutrients and the incidence of risk factors, before the diagnosis of breast cancer in patients from the city of Pelotas-RS.Materials and Methods: This was an observational descritive, cross-sectional study with 43 women with a mean age of 50 years, who had the diagnosis of breast cancer, did mastectomy and are part of the project "One touch of Life". A questionnaire was applied on the frequency of consumption of dietary fibers and fats of diet to evaluate the habit of consumption of these nutrients, before the diagnosis of breast cancer, and an individual questionnaire to evaluate the incidence of risk factors. Results and Discussion: The majority of the interviewees do not smoked (69.8%) or drank alcohol (67.5%), not practiced physical activity (58.1%), fondling him at the breast (76.7%) used oral contraceptives for more than 10 consecutive years (60.5%) and presented cases of breast cancer in the family (65,4%). There was a prevalence of overweight (25,6%) and obesity (27,9%) before the diagnosis of breast cancer and the great majority of the interviewees presented inadequate consumption of dietary fibers (55,8%) and fat (25,6%) in the diet.Conclusion: The great majority of the interviewees presented a family history of breast cancer, besides presenting mismatching of consumption of dietary fibers and fat in the diet.
