Abstract:

Northern Cyprus went to the box for early general elections on January 7, 2018. Before the election, political parties, leaders and candidates conducted the election work from all sides, and often used the traditional mass media and social media. According to the results of the election, the two newly established parties entered the parliament and obtained the right to represent. This study examines the Twitter use practices of the six parties and their leaders entering the parliament between 13 November 2017 and 7 January 2018, when the date of early election is clear. In the political life of the Northern Cyprus, there is no excess of work on social media tools, especially the use of Twitter, which makes this work important. In the study, tweets in the relevant period were analyzed through content analysis from quality research methods. The analysis has shown that the newly established and first-early elected political parties have been actively using Twitter. It has been found that these parties are about almost everything, but former parties often tweet about their election campaigns.
