Abstract:

Today, the Applied City is recommended as a way to create original living spaces and to create sustainable urban areas. The quiet city philosophy includes the creation of a development model where local products are produced, cultural texts are preserved, traditional lifestyle is held in the forefront. This study aims to evaluate Karaduvar’s conformity to the Pacific City model with its different cultural values, lifestyle, economic situation and geographical location. In this context, in this study, which was established in the quality research model, the work group was formed by ten participants living in the Karaduvar neighborhood of Mersin and who are in a position to represent the region and who have worked in various institutions and organizations. With the focus group method, both the face-to-face question answer technique was applied and semi-structured question forms were used, and according to Karaduvar's Silent City standards, the SWOT analysis has identified the strong and weak aspects. Accordingly, although it has positive values with its local culture and food, it has been revealed that Karaduvar is not suitable for this model for reasons such as the destruction of natural resources and the existence of a large number of industrial facilities nearby.
