Abstract:

This study is planned to identify the pain and methods they use in the pain situations of patients diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome. The study, which is of identificative cutting quality, was conducted between 8-20 March 2017 with 80 patients (160 hands) diagnosed with idiopathic carpal tunnel syndrome in an educational and research hospital's electronoromyography laboratory. The data was collected using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) for the determination of the pain severity. In the statistical analysis of the data, the percentage, the average, Kruskall Wallis test, Mann Whitney U test was used. The patient’s complaint period is 2.5±1.0 years, and the average pain score is 6.0±2.1 according to the NRS. The pain management method most used by patients was exercise (58.8 percent), massage (43.8 percent) and pain remedies (28.8 percent) respectively. The percentage of partial benefit has been statistically meaningful in all those who use the cold (p=0.012). A statistically meaningful relationship between the pain severity of patients and the time of complaint has been found in a positive direction (p=0.004). Patients diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome have been shown to use different methods of pain management. The patient with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome has been found to experience a higher severity of pain as the time the complaint period increases. Patients with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome should be informed about their application for conservative treatment in the acute period.
