Introduction: Obesity in adolescent is a growing public health problem that affect the bio-psycho-social condition and the body image of this population. Normally, the approaches used in the treatment of obesity focus only on the physiological health and forget the subject and the relation with the body. Furthermore, understanding other aspects involving body image may lead to a legitimate acceptance and real change in their body composition. Aim: Discourse about the level of satisfaction of body image in obese adolescent females. Methods: Exploratory research literature review in the period 2000 to 2015 following inclusion criteria: publications in the form of a scientific article; monographs and dissertations; studies with adolescents; studies that used the scales of silhouettes and that were written in Portuguese language. Results: concerns about body image generating social insecurity, low self-esteem and feelings of inferiority. Obese adolescents have compromised health of both the social and psychological factors and not just physiologic. Final considerations: psychosocial factors lead to dissatisfaction with body image as well as others negative health outcomes. Therefore, when it comes to body image in obese adolescents, the professional of physical education should incorporate in this practice not only physical aspects, but also psychosocial aspects to optimize the relationship of this population with the body image.
