Investigation of Promotional Policies of Government Sector Organisation and Role of Organisational Justice

This qualitative case study considered the fairness in the promotion policy and practice of college teachers of Sindh province. The data of teachers was collected from seniority lists issued by the education department. Although numerable quantitative studies measured the fairness in promotion in the organizations, there are few qualitative studies that attempt to explore the fairness in promotion policy and practice. Conspicuously lacking also are studies relating to fairness in promotion of college teachers. In the present study, we posed research questions relating what is promotion policy and practice for college teachers in Sindh province. Through the framework of organizational justice and promotions, we considered how the promotion is awarded to college teachers. The results indicated that there is delay in promotions of college teachers, which can be seen as unfair by the teachers working in education department. With this in mind, the study provided insight into both fairness in promotion policy and practice of college teachers of education department in Sindh province. It addressed the unintended consequences of unfair procedures if perceived, on the productivity and prosperity of department in long run.
