İkinci Dünya Savaşı sonrasında oluşan konjonktür, Sovyet Rusya’ya yayılabilmesi için yeni bir fırsat tanımıştı. İkinci Dünya Savaşı sırasında meydana gelen olaylar, Sovyet yayılmacılığının önünü açmış, Sovyet Rusya ise eline geçen bu fırsatı değerlendirmek istemiştir. Almanları kovalarken girdiği Avrupa içlerinden çekilmek istememiş ve uluslararası ortamın elverişli durumundan yararlanarak güneye de yayılmak istemişti. Bu politika şüphesiz en fazla Türkiye’yi etkilemiştir. SSCB’nin hedefi, savaş sonrası güvenlik kuşağı olarak gördüğü, Balkanlar ve Boğazlar bölgesinde nüfuz sahibi olmaktı. Sovyet Rusya, savaş sonrasında geleneksel politikalarının da etkisiyle, sıcak denizlere inmek ve enerji bölgesi olan Ortadoğu’ya ulaşmak için güneye açılmak istemiştir. Bu amaç kapsamında Sovyet Rusya, Türkiye’yi İngiltere ve ABD’den ayırarak kendisini bölgede daha avantajlı duruma getirmek istiyordu. Bunun için, Türkiye üzerinde baskı yapmış, Boğazlarda üs ve Doğu bölgesinden toprak talep etmiştir. Sovyetlerin bu politikaları Türkiye’nin tüm dış politikasını etkilemiş ve şekillendirmiştir. Çalışmamızda; Sovyet Rusya’nın İkinci Dünya Savaşı sonrasında yayılmacı politikası ve bu politika kapsamında güneye inme amacı, gerekçeleri ile birlikte incelenmiştir. Sovyet Rusya’nın güneye inme amacı için Türkiye üzerinde uyguladığı baskı politikası sonucu gelişen Türkiye-Sovyet Rusya ilişkileri ve bunun Türkiye’nin dış politikası üzerindeki etkisi ele alınmıştır.
