Canan Türkiye’de feminist sanatçılar deyince akla gelen isimlerden bir tanesidir. Feminist akımın etkilerini düşünsel, görsel ve öncelikli olarak hayatının içinde uygulamaya koyan sanatçılardandır. Minyatür, fotoğraf, video, performans, heykel gibi çeşitli sanatsal ifadelerden yararlanarak yapıtlarını ortaya koyan Canan kendini aktivist bir sanatçı olarak da tanımlar. Günümüzde sanatın üretim biçimini ele aldığımızda disiplinler arası bir yaklaşım görüyoruz. Bu yaklaşımlardan birisi de tarih öncesi zamanlardan beri günümüze kadar devam eden, insanın gördüğü gerçekliği ifade etmesinin yanında hissettiği, kendi bilincinde yaşadığı gerçekliğin psikolojik boyutunu da ifade eden biçimler, renkler, formlardır. Canan’ın sanat yaşamı boyunca ürettiği işler toplumsal meselelere dayanmakla birlikte İslamiyet öncesi Türkiye coğrafyasındaki kadın imajından günümüz Türkiye’ sinde cinsiyet, cinsel istismar, aile içi şiddet, toplumsal rollerin getirdiği zorunluluklar gibi konulara da odaklanmaktadır. Kaf Dağı’nın Ardında sergisiyle birlikte Canan kendi ile özdeşleşen bir kadın ve anne arketipi yaratmıştır. Toplumda var olan bir bireyin yaşam döngülerinin karşılıklarını izlediğimiz Kaf Dağı’nın Ardında sergisi, analitik psikoloji teorisinin kurucusu Carl Gustav Jung’un anne arketipi üzerinden değerlendirilmiştir. Bu inceleme ile anne imgesinin dönüşümlerini eserlerinde okuyabildiğimiz Canan‘ın çalışmalarının disiplinler arası olgulara dikkat çekeceği umulmaktadır.
Canan is one of the names of feminist artists in Turkey. Feminist is one of the artists who put the influences of the stream in mind, visual and primarily in practice in their lives. Canan describes himself as an activist artist, using various artistic expressions such as miniature, photo, video, performance, statue. Today, when we deal with the form of production of art, we see an interdisciplinary approach. One of these approaches is the forms, colors, forms that continue from prehistoric times to today, and express the psychological dimension of the reality in which the person feels, and expresses the reality in which he lives in his own consciousness. Canan's works throughout his art life are based on social issues, but from the image of women in the pre-Islamic Turkish geography, he focuses on topics such as gender, sexual abuse, domestic violence, social roles. In the mountains of Caff, with the exhibition, Canan created an archetype that identified himself with a woman and mother. The exhibition behind the Kaf Mountain, where we follow the responses of the life cycles of an individual that exists in society, is evaluated through the mother archetype of the founder of the theory of analytical psychology Carl Gustav Jung. It is hoped that this study and the conversions of the mother's image can be read in the works of Canan's work will draw attention to interdisciplinary facts.
