Abstract:

The paternalist leadership concept is used for leaders with the "father" model. This concept is defined in different meanings by Eastern and Western cultures. The concept of paternalism in Eastern cultures is explained by tolerance, sharing, while in the West paternalism is explained by individual responsibilities. The difference between individual and collective cultural characteristics also differs in the understanding of the concept. In the Eastern societies, philosophies such as Al-Ahiilik, Confucius, Buddhism pay attention to the family, the structure of society. The family members aim to ensure that their youth-old, master-cratic relationships are in an environment of respect, tolerance and intimacy. In the Eastern society, paternalist is seen as the parents of the leading employees, creating an emotional connection with the employee’s boss and company. The paternalist leader in the Western society is defined as a restrictive of freedoms, the regulator, which is not loved by the workers, by moving more from the father’s “buyer” structure. In the Eastern culture, the interpersonal hierarchy has gained emotional dimension, and sanctions are based on the essence of volunteering. In the Turkish society, the master-character relationship that has come to us from the example of the paternalist leader's understanding to the present day. The doctrine and the paternalist leadership characteristics are similar to the doctrine.
