Azerbaycan toprakları stratejik konumu sebebiyle tarih boyunca sık sık etno-demografik değişikliklere maruz kalmıştır. Bunda jeopolitik konumunun da etkisi büyüktür. Kimmerler ve Sakalar gibi kadim milletlerin yaşadığı bir coğrafya olması bu konumunun eski devirlere kadar uzandığının kanıtıdır. Bölgenin güçlü devletleri bu konumu sebebiyle gerek işgal etmek gerekse kendilerine tabi kılmak suretiyle bölgede egemenlik kurmaya çalışmışlardır. Bu durum bölgenin demografik yapısına da etki etmiştir. Özellikle de XIX. asırdan itibaren bölgenin etnik yapısı planlı bir şekilde değişime tabi tutulmuştur. Bu değişimin tarihsel süreklilik içerisinde takibinin yapılarak ortaya konulması bölgenin gelecekte ne gibi olaylara gebe olduğunu göstermek açısından önem arz etmektedir. Bu nedenle Azerbaycan’ı ve onun sürgit problemlerini anlamada etnografik bir incelemenin gerekliliği ve faydası ortadadır. Bu makalede bugünkü Azerbaycan’ı oluşturan etnik gruplar (daha çok son iki asırlık) tarihi süreçleriyle birlikte ele alınmaya çalışılmıştır.
As a result of its strategic location, the territory of Azerbaijan has often been exposed to ethno-demographic changes throughout the history. The geopolitical influence is also great. Being a geography in which ancient peoples such as Kimmer and Sakalar live is proof that this position extends to ancient times. The powerful states of the region have tried to establish a sovereignty in the region because of this position, if necessary to occupy it. This has also affected the demographic structure of the region. Especially the 19th. Since the century, the ethnic structure of the region has been subjected to planned changes. This change in historical continuity is important to show what events the region is going to happen in the future. Therefore, the necessity and benefit of an ethnographic examination in understanding of Azerbaijan and its demigration problems is clear. This article has been trying to discuss the ethnic groups that formed today’s Azerbaijan (more than the last two centuries) along with the historical processes.
