Abstract:

In the twenty-first century, the number of books, articles and research in different languages, written in many countries and especially in Europe, relating to the field of visual and hearing translation, has increased significantly. This field, which has been studied since the 1930s, has only been recognized by the field experts after the 1990s as a sub-space of translation; therefore, although it is a new field compared to other sub-spaces of translation, it has become an area of interest for researchers. In the first part of the study, the short history of the field of expertise is referred to. The second section focused on the reasons for the increase in studies in the field and these reasons were evaluated along with the results. The increase in the number of products transmitted by visual-working translation has been described in a historic process and continued visual-hearing translation work has been focused on the reasons for the increase in importance in this context. In the third section, the number of education given at the university level in the field of visual and hearing translation and/or sub-services in Turkey has been referred to. The visual-hearing translation research in our country has also been addressed by numbers and content. A summary of the current situation of visual-hearing translation work in Turkey has been presented. In the fourth section, examples of the studies of advanced foreign researchers in the field have been listed with relatively less studied topics in Turkey and the importance of these topics has been explained. In the result section, recommendations were brought to the fields that can be studied on visual-hearing translation and the need for work in the field was assessed in the context of visual-hearing translation production in Turkey. The study focuses on present visual and hearing translation studies with world-leading examples, with the aim of introducing innovative fields of study to young researchers and leading to future studies.
