Klâsik Türk Mûsıkîsi’ne hem nazariyat çalışmaları ile hem de besteleri ile önemli katkıları olan Hüseyin Sadettin Arel, Türk Din Mûsıkîsi formlarından biri olan Durak formunda çok sayıda eser bestelemiştir. Durak formunun serbest icra üslûbuyla okunduğu göz önüne alındığında, Arel’in bestelediği durakların ilk notalı form örneklerini teşkil etmesi dikkat çekicidir. Klâsik Türk Din Mûsıkîsinde az sayıda örnekleri olan Durak formunu Arel, 111 durak besteleyerek repertuar açısından daha da zenginleştirmiştir. XX. yüzyılın önemli nazariyatçı, müzikolog ve bestekârlarından biri olan Arel’in bu sayıda durak bestelemesinin yanı sıra nitelik açısından da Durak formuna büyük katkıları olmuştur. Arel’in hem nazariyat hususundaki birikimlerini bu eserlerde sergilemesi, hem de bu eserleri usûllü şekilde notaya alarak kalıcılaştırması bu katkılar arasında sayılabilir. Bu bakımdan yapılan çalışmada Hüseyin Sadettin Arel’in TRT repertuarında mevcut bulunan Durak formundaki 108 eserinden makam geçkisi en fazla olan 23 durağı tespit edilmiş ve bu eserler makamsal analize tâbi tutulmuştur. Eserler, Arel-Ezgi-Uzdilek nazariyat sistemine göre analiz edilmiştir. Çalışma kapsamında incelenen 23 durakta toplamda 80 makam geçkisi tespit edilmiştir. Tespit edilen makam geçkileri içinde özellikle transpoze mantığıyla, başka perdeler üzerine göçürülerek yapılan makam geçkilerinin daha fazla olduğu dikkat çekmektedir. İncelenen eserlerde en çok Hicâz makamı geçkisi yapıldığı sonucuna varılmış, bunu Acemaşiran’da Çargâh ve Uşşak makamı geçkileri ile Nim Hicâz’da Segâh, Yerinde Hüseyni, Yerinde Şedaraban, Nevâ’da Uşşak ve Yerinde Zirgüleli Sûznâk makamlarındaki geçkiler takip etmiştir.
