Hayatın hemen her anında ortaya çıkma ihtimali bulunan kaygı, bireyin yaşamını da çoğu zaman olumsuz yönde etkilemektedir. Kaygının bireyler üzerinde oluşturduğu olumsuz etkinin görülebileceği alanlardan biri de okuma becerisidir. Okuma becerisi, öğrencinin eğitim hayatının her anında özel ve önemli bir yere sahiptir. Okuma becerisi yeteri kadar gelişmemiş ve okuma kaygısı hisseden öğrencilerin kendilerini başarısız hissedeceği ortadadır. Bu durum da, ilerleyen dönemlerde önemli sorunları beraberinde getirecektir. Bu nedenlerle, okuma kaygısının tespit edilmesi ve incelenmesi, öğrencilerin sağlıklı bir okuma becerisi geliştirmesi ve sorunsuz bir eğitim hayatına sahip olabilmelerine yardımcı olmak adına önemlidir. Bu araştırmanın amacı; ortaokul öğrencilerinin okuma kaygılarını çeşitli değişkenler açısından incelemektir. Çalışmada nicel araştırma yaklaşımı benimsenmiş olup tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2018-2019 eğitim öğretim yılı bahar döneminde; Erzurum, Samsun, Kahramanmaraş ve Muş illerinde yer alan ortaokullarda 6., 7. ve 8. sınıflarda öğrenim gören toplam 767 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak Çeliktürk ve Yamaç (2015) tarafından geliştirilen “İlkokul ve Ortaokul Öğrencileri İçin Okuma Kaygısı Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen tüm veriler SPSS 25 paket programında parametrik testler kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmada; ortaokul öğrencilerinin okuma kaygılarının cinsiyet ve sınıf değişkenlerine göre anlamlı bir şekilde farklılaşmadığı; aile gelir düzeyi, evde kütüphane / kitaplık bulunup bulunmaması, yılda okunan kitap sayısı ve evde kitap okuyan birinin olup olmaması değişkenlerine göre ise anlamlı bir şekilde farklılaştığı görülmüştür.
Anxiety, which is likely to occur at any moment of life, often affects the individual’s life in a negative direction. One of the areas where the negative effects of anxiety on individuals can be seen is the ability to read. The ability to read has a special and important place in every moment of the student’s educational life. It is clear that the reading skills are not sufficiently developed and that students who feel reading anxiety will feel failed. This will bring important problems with you in the future. For these reasons, the identification and study of reading anxiety is important to help students develop healthy reading skills and have a problem-free educational life. The purpose of this research is to study the reading concerns of high school students from a variety of variables. In the study, the qualitative research approach was adopted and the scan model was used. The study’s work group consists of a total of 767 students studying in the 6th, 7th and 8th classes of high schools located in Erzurum, Samsun, Kahramanmaraş and Muş. The research has been used as a data collection tool, developed by Çeliktürk and Yamaç (2015) "The scale of reading anxiety for primary and secondary school students". All the data obtained from the study were analyzed using parametric tests in the SPSS 25 package program. The study found that high school students' reading concerns did not differ significantly according to gender and class variables; the family income level, whether or not there is a library / library at home, the number of books read per year and whether or not there is a person reading a book at home variables.
