Bir veya birkaç toplumun maddi manevi her türlü yapıp etmelerine medeniyet denildiğinde, bu bütün toplumları ilgilendirebilir. Ancak, modernleşme denildiğinde, ilk akla gelen Batı’nın Rönesans, reform ve Aydınlanma neticesinde ortaya koyduğu akılcı, bilimsel, teknolojik ve idari etkinliğin hâkim kılınması akla gelmektedir. Modernlik Batı’dan çıkmış olsa da, sadece Batı’ya mahsus değildir. Ortaçağ’da diğer dünyaya oranla daha geri olan Batı medeniyeti, kendisinde bir hareketliliğin başlamasını büyük ölçüde Doğu’ya (Batı dışındaki diğer dünya) borçludur. Bugün itibariyle de, dünya medeniyet tarihinin dününü ve bugünü veya Batı medeniyetini anlamak için Doğu’ya bakmak bir zorunluluktur. Modernlik, Fransız İhtilâli ile birlikte, doğru ve makbul tek hayat tarzı olarak, önce Avrupa’ya yayılmış ve arkasından da dünyaya dayatılmıştır. Modern anlayışta Tanrı ile insan yer değiştirmiştir. Tek geçerli rehber insan aklı olmuştur. Büyüsünü kaybeden modern hayat sadece olgular dünyasına indirgenmiştir. Bu aşırı seküler hayat, pek çok eksikliği, olumsuzluğu ve zaafları da beraberinde getirmiştir. Modern hayat, insanın özgürlüğünü merkeze almışsa da, en geçerli en ileri hayat tarzı olduğuna iman etmesi ve aklın dogmalarına saplanması, onu büyük bir çelişkinin içine sokmuştur. İnsan hayatına konforu getiren modernleşme, aynı zamanda insanı kendi yarattığı ürünlerin tutsağı da yapmıştır. Maddi gerçeklikler üzerine kurulan modern hayat, maddi irtibatların dışına çıkamadığından, onun hâkimiyetindeki bugünün dünyasında gözyaşı, adaletsizlik ve sömürü sıradan hale gelmiştir. Modern hayatın ortaya çıkışını, olumlu ve olumsuz yanlarıyla ortaya koymayı amaç edinen bu çalışma, literatür taramasına dayalı tasviri bir yöntemle ele alınmıştır.
When one or more societies are called civilization to do any kind of material and spiritual activity, it can affect all societies. However, when it comes to modernization, it is reasonable to dominate the intellectual, scientific, technological and administrative activity that the first-minded West has revealed as a result of the Renaissance, the reform and the Enlightenment. Even though modernity came from the West, it is not just the West. The Western civilization, which in the Middle Ages was more back than the other world, in its own part owes the beginning of a mobility to the East (the other world outside the West). As of today, it is mandatory to look to the East to understand the yesterday of the world civilization history and the present or Western civilization. Modernity, along with the French Empire, as a true and acceptable single lifestyle, first spread to Europe and then imposed on the world. In modern understanding, God and man have changed place. The only true guide is the human mind. Modern life, which has lost its magic, has only been reduced to the world of events. This extreme secular life has brought many shortcomings, negative and weaknesses with it. Although modern life has focused on man’s freedom, the fact that he believes that the most valid is the most advanced way of life and that he is immersed in the dogmas of mind has put him into a great contradiction. Modernization, which brings comfort to human life, has also made man a prison of the products he created himself. As modern life, based on material realities, cannot go out of material contacts, it has become normal in the world of today, the tears, injustice and exploitation under its rule. This study, which aims to reveal the appearance of modern life with its positive and negative aspects, has been dealt with by a literary scan-based imaging method.
