Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to evaluate the perceptions of the teaching candidates towards themselves and the practical teachers in terms of the general qualifications of the teaching profession published by the Ministry of National Education in 2017. The study was conducted on 84 students who received pedagogical formation training at the University of Fırat. The materials of the data collection tool consist of the general qualifications of the teaching profession determined by the Ministry of National Education. In this scope, the data collection tool consists of three competence fields with the eleven competences under them and seventy-five indicators relating to these competences. The Cronbach Alfa ratio of the data collection tool is calculated as .968. The research has found that the teacher candidates have a high perception of competence towards themselves and the teachers of practice. The research shows that the teacher candidates who participate in the study have a high level of competence in relation to their professional knowledge and skills, attitudes and values to the profession. In terms of gender and age variation, there is no significant difference in views between the candidate teachers' perceptions of the general qualifications of the teaching profession, while there is no significant difference in views according to the condition of preparation for the teaching profession. According to the research, teachers candidates consider themselves sufficient in terms of teaching skills, but the pedagogical formation they receive is problematic. It is recommended that practical training that will enable teachers to test their knowledge and skills is provided in the earliest periods and in a more intense manner. The new teaching programmes implemented in the educational faculty since 2018 include a certain degree of regulations on this issue. But it is wondering how successful and sufficient these arrangements will be.
