Reading expands their views of life by enhancing individuals’ understanding skills. Therefore, the training process should be focused on reading skills and habits. Teachers, one of the most important determinants of success in education, need to be a role model for students in giving them a reading habit. It is much more important to be a role model in this sense than to wait for students to acquire their own reading habits and just give advice about reading them. In this study, teachers working in a secondary school in the center of the Uşak province were guided to be a model for students in reading books, to enter classes with books in their hands, to travel with books in the school corridors and to talk about their books with the interested students and was supported by teachers in this regard. As a result of the study, there was an increase in the number of children who were more willing to read books, who had books alongside them, who spoke about books and who read books in vacant classes. Tolstoy said, “Everyone thinks of changing humanity, but no one thinks of changing himself first.” He was inspired by his word.
