Fashion designers occasionally place the tradition and traditional clothing items in their designs. This approach creates an environment that enables the discussion of the topics of fashion with traditional clothing. The statement aims to create a foundation for research on the interpretation of the tradition in fashion design, taking into account the clothing culture, the definition and content of fashion. In this context, clothing, which is formed with symbolic understanding in different geographics and develops as one of the topics of culture, will be explained under clothing culture. The concept of "moda" which is developed along with the industrial lifestyle formed in the framework of the 18th century's Industrial Revolution, will be defined as a fact and a system. The clothing culture that contains the data of the popular culture reflects the way of life of the society in which it is. There is no need for an industrial way of life. The color and shape perception that reflects the traditions in the clothing culture shaped according to the traditional life needs is clearly seen. This is how the clothing culture, which has been transmitted from generation to generation without a change for centuries, and which contains symbolic language, is formed. However, in the "moda" fact, the nature of the concept is not considered as a principle of consensus to the tradition seen in the clothing culture. For every new fashion must be the old. The conclusion of the study is that the subjects of the “cultural clothing” and the “mode” phenomenon evolved in different forms within the historical process depending on the production and way of life before and after the Industrial Revolution. According to the historical development processes, the values, scope and content of the two events will be presented with examples.

Fashion designers occasionally incorporate tradition and traditional clothing into their designs. This approach creates an environment that allows discussion of the issues of traditional clothing and fashion. The aim of the study is to provide a basis for the researches which will be made on the interpretation of tradition in fashion design by discussing clothing culture and definition and contents of fashion. In this context, clothing which is formed by symbolic understanding in different geographies and developed as one of the subjects of culture will be explained as clothing culture. Likewise, the concept of “fashion”, which is formed by industrial lifestyles shaped within the framework of the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century will be defined as phenomena and a system. Clothing culture, which includes folk culture data, reflects the life style of the society in which it is located, and there is no need for an industrial lifestyle. Thus, the examples of clothing culture, which has been transferred from generation to generation without being changed for centuries and containing symbolic language are formed. However, in the “fashion” phenomenon, due to the nature of the concept, adherence to the tradition seen in clothing culture is not accepted as a principle. Because eventually every new fashion has to be the old one. The finding of the study is that the issues of “clothing culture” and “fashion” developed in different ways in the historical process depending on the production techniques and lifestyles before and after the Industrial Revolution. The values, scopes and contents of the two concepts will be examined in line with the historical development process and presented with examples.
