Sosyal bilimlere ilişkin metinlerde sıkça karşılaşılan ve genellikle iletişimsizlik ve yalnızlık gibi olgular ile ilişkilendirilen yabancılaşma kavramı, litaratürde sadece bir kavram olmanın ötesinde kuramsal bir alt yapıya işaret etmektedir. Bu kuramsal alt yapının dışarıda bırakılması, yabancılaşmayı ortaya çıkaran toplumsal bağlamın gözden kaçırılması, dolayısıyla olgunun ideolojik boyutunun gizlenmesi riskini ortaya çıkarmaktadır. Yabancılaşma olgusunun sinema metinlerindeki temsiliyetine ilişkin çok fazla çalışmanın olmaması, olanların ise yukarıda açıklanan genel bir perspektif içerisinde ele alınmış olması, bu çalışmanın çıkış noktasını oluşturmuştur. Erich Fromm’un yabancılaşma kuramı temelinde yapılacak film incelemesinde elde edilen verilerin, olgunun sinemadaki temsiliyetinde ideolojik boyutun deşifre edilmesi açısından önemli olduğu düşünülmektedir. Çalışmada bu amaçla incelenecek film, Michael Haneke’nin ‘7. Kıta’ (Der siebente kontinent-1989) isimli filmidir. Filmin, Fromm’un yabancılaşma analizi ile uyumlu olduğunun düşünülmesi, çalışmanın teori ve temsil arasındaki ilişkiyi ortaya koyması açısından önemli görülmüştür. Kullanılacak yöntem, niteliksel içerik analizidir ve elde edilen veriler biçim ve içerik açısından değerlendirilerek sözü edilen kuram çerçevesinde eleştirel bir perspektif ile yorumlanacaktır.

Beyond being just a concept in the literature, the concept of alienation, often encountered in texts concerning social sciences and generally associated with the phenomena of lack of communication and loneliness, refers to a theoretical background. Leaving out this theoretical background poses the risk of veiling the ideological dimension of the phenomenon by overlooking the social context that creates alienation. The fact that the few studies concerning the representation of the phenomenon of alienation in cinema texts approach the phenomenon with a general perspective as mentioned above has constituted the starting point of this study. It is thought that the data obtained from the film analysis based on Erich Fromm’s alienation theory is important in terms of unveiling the ideological dimension in the representation of the phenomenon in cinema. In this respect, Michael Haneke’s The Seventh Continent (Der Siebente Kontinent-1989) will be analysed in the study. The thought that the film conforms to Fromm’s alienation analysis is considered significant for the study to put forward the relation between theory and representation. The data obtained through qualitative content analysis will be analysed in terms of form and content, and will be interpreted in the framework of the above mentioned theory through a critical perspective.
