Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu eserlerinde Tanzimat döneminden 1950’li yıllara kadar uzanan çizgide toplumsal hayatımızı anlatır. Yakup Kadri, insanı anlatırken onu yaşadığı zaman ve mekânın şartlarına göre ele alır. Hüküm Gecesi Yakup Kadri’nin üçüncü romanıdır. 1927 yılında yayınlanan roman, 1908-1911 yılları arasında Osmanlı Devleti’nde yaşanan siyasi ve sosyal gelişmeleri, dönemin basın hayatını muhalif gazeteci Ahmet Kerim’in etrafında gelişen olaylarla anlatır. Yazarın anı ve gözlemlerine dayanması, şahıs kadrosunda kurmaca kişilerin yanında gerçek kişilerin de yer alması ve döneme tutulan bir ayna niteliğinde olmasının yanı sıra Hüküm Gecesi mekânın kişi üzerindeki etkisini yansıtması yönünden de önemlidir. Bu çalışmanın amacı Hüküm Gecesi romanını insan-mekân ilişkisi bağlamında ele alarak incelemektir.

Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu narrates our social life, from Tanzimat to 1950, in his works. When describing a person, Yakup Kadri handles it according to the conditions of time and space. Hüküm Gecesi is third novel of Yakup Kadri. The novel, published in 1927, tells political and social developments in Ottoman Empire between 1908 and 1911, and the press life of period with the events happened around opposite journalist Ahmet Kerim. Besides it’s based on author’s memories and observations, real people take part in person staff in addition fictional characters and it is a mirror which reflects the period, Hüküm Gecesi is also important in terms of reflecting the effect of space on human. The aim of this work is to investigate the Hüküm Gecesi novel by handling in human-space relationship.
