Abstract:

Having the ability to establish communication and empathic tendency is cru-cial in shaping future business life in terms of all students who will be attend-ing to business. Effective communication needs to have the tendency of indi-viduals to empathize in order to communicate effectively, while helping to solve the problems that people face. This study aims to investigate the rela-tionship between the communication skills and empathy tendency. The sam-ple group in the study consists of 140 business information management un-dergraduate students in Silifke. In the scope of this study, Empathic Tenden-cy Scale (ETS) developed by Dökmen (1988) and Communication Skills In-ventory devoloped by Korkut (1996) have been selected as the data gathering method. Statistical methods used in this research can be summarized as Stu-dent t test one way ANOVA, Pearson Correlation test which were performed by using IBM SPSS 24 Demo Version. According to research findings, there is a positive and statistically significant relationship between students' empath-ic tendencies and communication skills. Moreover, research findings indicate that there is no differentiation in emphatic tendency and communication skills of students according to their demographic features. In addition, there is a sta-tistically significant and positive relationship between empathic tendencies and communication skills. Finally, it is observed that empathic tendency has a positive effect on communication skills.
