Ayastefanos ve Berlin Antlaşmalarıyla uluslararası arenaya taşınan Ermeni sorunu, bu tarihten sonra Osmanlı Devleti’ni uğraştıran en temel meselelerden biri olmuştur. Bağımsız bir Ermenistan kurma hayaliyle başlayan bu hareket başta Rusya olmak üzere Avrupalı büyük güçler tarafından da desteklenmiştir. Hınçak ve Taşnak örgütlerinin yönlendirmesiyle harekete geçen Ermenilerin temel stratejisi ülkenin dört bir yanında isyanlar çıkarıp batılı devletlerin olaylara müdahale etmesini sağlamaktı. Bu kapsamda 1890 sonrasında Osmanlı ülkesinin birçok vilayetinde Ermeni isyanları görülmüştür. Bilhassa 1895 yılında ivme kazanan isyanlardan biri de Trabzon’da yaşanmıştır. Trabzon’daki isyan, şehrin aynı zamanda liman kenti olması ve dış dünyayla sürekli temas halinde bulunmasından ötürü Avrupa basınının da gündemine taşınmıştır. Bu çalışmada İngiltere’de yayın yapan döneme ait gazetelerde Trabzon’daki Ermeni isyanıyla ilgili yer alan haberler ele alınmıştır.
The Armenian issue, which was moved to the international arena by the Treaties of Ayastefanos and Berlin, has since been one of the most fundamental issues that dealt with the Ottoman State. This movement, which began with the dream of establishing an independent Armenia, was first supported by major European powers, including Russia. The main strategy of the Armenians, which took action under the guidance of the Hınçak and Taşnak organizations, was to bring up rebellions across the country and ensure that Western states interfere with the events. In this context, after 1890, Armenian rebellions were seen in many provinces of the Ottoman country. One of the revolts in 1895 was in Trabzon. The rebellion in Trabzon has also moved to the agenda of the European press because the city is also a port city and is in constant contact with the outside world. The study discussed the news about the Armenian rebellion in Trabzon in the British newspapers.
The Armenian question, which was brought to the international platform with Ayastefanos and Berlin Treaties, became one of the most fundamental issues that the Ottoman Empire was dealing with since that time. An independent Armenia was also supported by European Great Powers, especially Russia. The basic strategy of the Armenians, who took action with the guidance of the Hinchak and Dashnak organizations, was to revolt all over the country and allow the western states to interfere in the events. In this context, after 1890, Armenian rebellions were seen in many provinces of the Ottoman country. Especially one of the revolutions that gained momentum in 1895 took place in Trabzon. The rebellion in Trabzon was brought up to the agenda of the European press because of being a port city as well; Trabzon was in constant contact with the outside world. In this study, news reporting the Armenian rebellion in Trabzon, published in the newspapers of England of that era, were mentioned.
