Kent kültürü, bir kentteki sosyal, kültürel, ekonomik ve siyasal hareketliliklerin temelini oluşturmaktadır. Her kentin kendine has özelliklerini yansıtan bir kavram olan kent kültürü, İnsanların yaşadıkları kentler için ve kente karşı geliştirdikleri tutumlarının bütününü ifade etmektedir. Yaşanabilir bir kentin oluşması için kent kültürünün yerleşmesi çok önemlidir. Bunun gerçekleşmesi kentlilik bilincinin artması ile mümkündür. Toplumun değişik kademelerinin, kurumların ve kuruluşların kent kültürünün yerleştirilmesinde ve kentlilik bilincinin oluşumunda dolaylı/dolaysız, istemli/istemsiz ve az/çok etkileri vardır. Bu çerçevede sayılan etkilerin oluşumunda en önemli rollerden biri kentlerin bilimsel manada lokomotifi durumunda olan üniversitelere düşmektedir. Dolayısıyla kent kültürü ve kentlilik bilinci konusunda üniversite akademik personelinin ne durumda olduğu neler yapabileceği dikkate değerdir. Çalışmamızda Hatay’da bulunan Mustafa Kemal Üniversitesinde çalışan akademik personelin kent kültürü ve kentlilik bilinci konusundaki genel görüşlerinin neler olduğu ve akademik personelin kent kültürü ve kentlilik bilincinin gelişiminde neler yapabileceği araştırılmıştır. Bu bağlamda akademik personele uygulanan anket SPSS programı yardımı ile değerlendirilerek Hatay ve Mustafa Kemal Üniversitesi ölçeğinde kent kültürü ve kentlilik bilincinin gelişiminde üniversitelerin rolünün belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır.
