Abstract:

The Gezi Park Resistance is one of the greatest social opposition movements in Turkish political history, which many social scientists are trying to interpret in both national and international fields. This movement, which struck its mark in June 2013, according to some social scientists, appeared with Turkish-specific qualities and has fully transmitted country-specific qualities. But, according to some social scientists, this resistance is a social opposition movement created by the modern world system, including Turkey. The subject of this study is to evaluate the Gezi Park Resistance in the framework of Wallerstein’s Modern World System Analysis and the views on the crisis of this system. According to Wallerstein, the modern world system has experienced two major systemic crises, the 1848 revolution ended with the re-formation of the world, but the second systemic crisis of 1968 has not yet ended. Many of the social movements that have occurred worldwide since 2008 described as the continuation of the 1968 crisis.
