Milyonlarca insanı heyecanlandıran bir spor dalı olan futbol günümüzde her geçen gün ekonomik anlamda gelişen bir endüstriye dönüşmüştür. Bu endüstri küresel çapta faaliyet gösteren futbol takımlarının ortaya çıkmasına katkıda bulunmuş ve ulusların bu oluşan küresel futbol endüstrisinden faydalanmasına katkıda bulunmuştur. Futbol her ne kadar bir topun peşinden koşan yirmi iki adamın bir mücadelesi gibi gözükse de özellikle son çeyrek yüzyılda ekonomik yönü büyüyen bir endüstri halini almıştır. Futbol endüstrisi futbol maçlarının yarattığı ekonomik hacim maçların yayın gelirleri, sponsorluk, forma ve benzeri lisanslı ürün satışı gibi yan dallardan gelen gelirleri ile daha da büyümektedir.
