Abstract:

Religiosity typologies, religious experiences, perceptions and attitudes form and evolve in a relationality through complex bonds. Family is the first and most important of these formation and evolvement processes because of its priority. The reason why the clues about religious attitudes are sought in the family is that the family has a network of relationships and interactions that determine and influence the forming and shaping of the personalities and behaviors, attitudes and perceptions, social skills and judgments. In this respect, it was tried to be determined what kind of relationship was between the parental attitudes towards religion and their children's achievement in Religion Culture and Ethics Knowledge course in the study. The population of the research consists of parents of the students enrolled in primary schools in Van (Turkey) in 2003-2004 academic year affiliated to the Ministry of National Education. The prepared questionnaire was applied to the sample consisting of parents of the 4th and 8th grade students in 11 schools. In our study, hypothesis testing was based on a significance level of 0.05 for some variables and 0.01 for some variables. It is thought that our research will reveal how religious attitudes of parents affect students' achievement in Religious Culture and Ethics Knowledge courses and also contribute to the studies on Religious Culture and Moral Education course achievements in Turkey. In addition, our study presents cross-sectional data for 2003 in terms of statistics. In this context, our research will be able to compare the date obtained from new studies. It is thought that our research will provide contribution to new studies in terms of knowledge, resources and methodology.
