Piere-Kieren’e göre anlama katmanları üzerinde ileri-geri şeklinde gidip gelmeyi gerektiren kompleks bir hareketin sonucu oluşan matematiksel anlama, kendini yenileyen bir süreçtir. Kompleks yapıdaki bu süreci etkileyen faktörlerin belirlenmesi ise matematiksel anlamayı anlamaya yardımcı olabilir. Bu sebeple araştırmada, ortaokul öğrencilerinin farklı değişkenlere (cinsiyet, sınıf seviyesi, başarı vb.) göre matematiksel anlamalarının incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma tarama modelinde betimsel bir çalışmadır. Çalışma grubunu, Kocaeli ili İzmit ilçesinde bulunan iki devlet ortaokulunda öğrenim görmekte olan 807 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak; “Kişisel Bilgi Formu (KBF)” ve “Matematiksel Anlama Düzeylerini Belirleme Ölçeği (MADBÖ)” kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre; kız öğrencilerin matematiksel anlamalarının erkek öğrencilere göre daha yüksek olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Sınıf seviyesi arttıkça matematiksel anlamanın düştüğü, akademik başarı yükseldikçe matematiksel anlamanın yükseldiği belirlenmiştir. Ders çalışırken yardım alıp almamanın matematiksel anlama üzerinde herhangi bir farklılık yaratmadığı belirlenirken ayrı ders çalışma odasına sahip olmanın bir farklılık yarattığı ortaya çıkmıştır. Çalışma süresi ile matematiksel anlamanın arttığı belirlenirken ideal çalışma süresinin “2 saat” olduğu söylenebilir. Matematiği anladığını düşünen, matematikle ilgili oyunlar oynamayı ve kitap okumayı seven ve gelecekte matematikle ilgili bir işte çalışmayı isteyen öğrencilerin matematiksel anlamalarının diğerlerine göre yüksek olduğu elde edilen sonuçlar arasındadır. Elde edilen sonuçlar ışığında, matematiksel oyunlara matematik derslerinde daha çok yer verilmesinin, öğrencileri kitap okumaya sevk etmenin gerekli olduğu düşünülmekte ve önerilmektedir.
According to Piere-Kieren, mathematical understanding, which is the result of a complex movement that requires to go forward and back on the layers of understanding, is a self-renoving process. Identifying the factors that influence this process in the complex structure can help to understand mathematical understanding. This is why in the research, high school students have different variables (gender, class level, success, etc.) It is intended to study their mathematical understanding. Research is an imaginary study in the screening model. The study group consists of 807 students who are studying in two state high schools located in Kocaeli or Izmit district. As a data collection tool, the "Personal Information Form (KBF)" and the "Matematical Understanding Levels Determination Scale (MADBÖ)" were used. The study found that girls learn more mathematics than boys. As the class level increases, the mathematical understanding decreases, and the academic success increases, the mathematical understanding increases. It has been found that having a separate classroom has created a difference when it is determined whether not taking assistance during the course does not create any difference in mathematical understanding. The study time and the increased mathematical understanding can be determined while the ideal work time is "2 hours". It is among the findings that students who think they understand mathematics, who love to play mathematics-related games and read books and who wish to work in a mathematics-related job in the future have a higher mathematical understanding than others. In light of the achieved findings, it is considered and recommended that mathematical games should be given more space in mathematics classes, and that students should be encouraged to read books.
According to Pirie-Kieren, mathematical understanding, which is developed as a result of a complex movement that requires going back and forth on the understanding layers, is a self-renewing process. Determination of factors affecting this complex-structured process may help to comprehend mathematical understanding. Therefore, it is intended to examine mathematical understanding of the middle school students according to different variables (gender, grade, success, etc.) in this research. The research is a descriptive study in a survey model. 807 students studying in two state middle schools in İzmit district of Kocaeli province constitute the study group. “Personal Information Form” (PIF)” and “Determining the Mathematical Understanding Levels Scale (DMULS)” are used as data collection tools. According to the research results, it is revealed that mathematical understanding of the female students is higher than the male students. It is determined that as the grade rises, mathematical understanding decreases and as the academic achievement increases, mathematical understanding increases too.
