İLKÖĞRETİM 4. VE 5. SINIF ÖĞRENCİLERİNİN BENLİK SAYGISI İLE SOSYAL UYUM DÜZEYİ İLİŞKİSİ

Abstract:

Bu çalışma ilköğretim 4. ve 5. sınıf öğrencilerinin benlik saygısı ile sosyal uyum düzeyinin ilişkisini incelemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmaya Amasya ili Suluova ilçesinde 2010-2011 eğitim-öğretim yılında 4. ve 5. sınıfa devam eden 180 kız, 180 erkek olmak üzere toplam 360 öğrenci ve 24 öğretmen katılmıştır. Öğrencilerin benlik saygısını ölçmek için “Piers- Harris Çocuklarda Benlik Kavramı Ölçeği (PHÇBÖ)”, sosyal uyum düzeyini belirlemek için de “Walker- McConnell Sosyal Yeterlik ve Okul Uyum Ölçeği (WMC- SYOUÖ)” kullanılmıştır. Öğrencilerin cinsiyete, sosyoekonomik duruma, anne ve baba eğitim durumuna ilişkin bilgileri, araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan “Bilgi Formu” ile toplanmıştır. Tarama modeliyle yürütülen çalışmada verilerin istatistiki hesaplamaları SPSS programıyla yapılmıştır. Öncelikle ölçeklerin güvenirliği hesaplanmış ve PHÇBÖ için Cronbach Alfa katsayısı .87, WMC- SYOUÖ için Cronbach Alfa katsayısı .98 bulunmuştur. Bu değerler çalışmanın güvenirliği için yeterli kabul edilmiştir. Verilerin analizi sonucunda; benlik saygısı ile sosyal uyum düzeyi arasında pozitif yönde anlamlı bir ilişki olduğu, çocukların benlik saygısı yükseldikçe sosyal uyum düzeyinin de yükseldiği bulunmuştur. Cinsiyet değişkenine göre, kızların benlik saygısı ve uyum düzeyinin erkeklerin benlik saygısı ve sosyal uyum düzeyinden daha yüksek olduğu; sosyoekonomik düzeydeki iyileşmenin benlik saygısı ve sosyal uyumu olumlu yönde etkilediği, anne ve babanın eğitim düzeyi arttıkça benlik saygısı ve sosyal uyum düzeyinin de arttığı görülmüştür. Elde edilen bu bulgular literatür ışığında yorumlanarak benlik saygısı ve sosyal uyum açısından tartışılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonuçlarına göre ebeveynlere, öğretmenlere diğer araştırmacılara önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

The Relationship Between Level Of The Self-respect and Level Of The Social Adjustment In 4th and 5th Grade Students

This study aims to investigate the relationship between self-perception and social adjustment of 4th and 5th grade students. 180 male students and 180 female students totally 360 students attending 4th and 5th grade and 24 primary class teachers participated in the study. “the Piers-Harris Children’s Self-Concept Scale” (PH-CSCS) was employed to measure the level of self-respect; The Walker-McConnell Scale of Social Competence and School Adjustment” (WM-SSCSA) was used to measure social adjustment in the students. The data about gender, socioeconomic level, level of educational status of parents was collected “the Information Form” developed by the researcher. In the study conducted by survey methods, data was analyzed through SPSS software. First both of the scales’ reliability was calculated and it was found that Cronbach Alpha Coefficient for PH-CSCS is .87 and Cronbach Alpha Coefficient for WM-SSCSA is .98. These value were accepted as reliable enough. As a result of the data analysis it was found that there is a significant relationship between level of the self-respect and level the social adjustment; the more children’s self-respect rises, the more children’s level of social adjustment. According to gender variable, it was observed that the female students have higher level of the self-respect and social adjustment. In the study it was also discovered that amelioration in the socioeconomic level influenced the self-respect and social adjustment positively; the higher level of educational status of the parents increases, the more level of the self respect and the social respect rises. Findings in the study was commented in the light of literature and discussed with respect to the self-respect and the social adjustment. According to results from the study, suggestions were made for parents, teachers and other researchers.
