Son dönemin başarılı öykücülerinden olan Ethem Baran, 2008 yılında çıkardığı Yarım ismini taşıyan ilk romanı ile roman yazarlığına giriş yapmıştır. 12 Eylül döneminin kişiler üzerinde kurduğu siyah hâkimiyeti, onların benliklerinde açtığı derin yaralar üzerinden ortaya koyan roman, kişilerin psikolojisini tüm derinliği ile vermesi açısından psikolojik roman başlığı altında değerlendirilebilecek yetkin bir eserdir. Bu çalışmada 20. yüzyılda Sigmund Freud tarafından temelleri atılan ve sonrasında geliştirilerek kendi içinde birçok dala ayrılan “Psikanalitik Edebiyat Eleştirisi” kuramları açıklanacak ve bunlardan romana uygun olanları seçilerek romanın kahramanı incelenecektir. Esere uygun olduğu düşünülen kuramlar ışığında sadece romanın verilerine sadık kalınarak kahramanın içinde bulunduğu ruh hali neden-sonuç ilkesi doğrultusunda tespit edilecektir. Psikanalitik, yaratım edimi ve sanatçılık üzerine de söz söylemiş bir bilimdir. Özellikle yazarın yaratıcılığının nereden geldiği üzerine ortaya koyduğu veriler göz ardı edilemeyecek kadar önemlidir. Yarım’ın başkahramanı, sanatçı olmak isteyen ve bu anlamda atılımları da olan bir karakterdir. Roman da zaten bütüne bakıldığında sadece onun yazılarından oluşmaktadır. Bu nedenle o, eserin mimarı gibi düşünülecek ve onun yaratıcılığının kaynağı ele alınan kuramın verileri çerçevesinde ortaya koyulacaktır. Psikanalitiğin eser odaklı eleştiri bölümü bittikten sonra, her roman yazarından izler taşır, prensibinden yola çıkılarak eserde yazarın izleri sürülecektir.
