Bu çalışmanın amacı, Ankara ili ilköğretim okullarında görev yapan sınıf öğretmenlerinin, ana babaların çocuklarına yönelik hangi davranışlarını istismar ve ihmal olarak nitelendirdiklerine, çocukların ana babaları tarafından istismarının ve ihmalinin nedenlerine ve bu davranışlarla kendilerinin baş etme yöntemlerine ilişkin görüşlerini cinsiyete, kıdeme, çocuk sahibi olma durumuna, öğrenim düzeyine, sınıf mevcuduna, okulun öğrenci sayısına ve okulun bulunduğu çevrenin sosyoekonomik düzeyine göre incelemektir. Araştırmada nitel ve nicel araştırma yöntemleri birlikte kullanılmıştır. Araştırmaya 244 sınıf öğretmeni katılmıştır. Araştırmada Karaman (1993) tarafından geliştirilen “Öğretmenlere Göre Çocukların Ana-Babaları Tarafından İstismarı ve İhmali” ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Nicel verilerin analizinde t-testi, ANOVA ve Kruskal Wallis nitel verilerin analizinde içerik analizi kullanılmıştır. Nicel verilerin analizi sonucunda öğretmenlerin görüşlerinin cinsiyet, kıdem, sınıftaki öğrenci sayısı ve okuldaki öğrenci sayısı değişkenlerine göre anlamlı bir farklılık gösterdiği ortaya çıkmıştır. Nitel verilerin analizi sonucunda ise öğretmenlerin görüşleri “iletişim”, “eğitim”, “araştırma” ve “genel önlem” ana kategorilerine ayrılarak değerlendirilmiştir. Öğretmenler çocuk istismarı ve ihmalini önlemek için, öğrenci ve aile ile sürekli iletişim içinde olunmasının ve başta aileler olmak üzere öğretmenlere ve öğrencilere çocuk istismarı ve ihmali konusunda eğitimler verilmesinin önemli olduğunu belirtmişlerdir.
This study investigates perceptions of elementary school teachers, working in Ankara, on which behaviors are accepted as abuse and neglect by parents’ toward their own children; the reasons and methods of dealing with them (according to teachers’ gender, teaching experience, having a child or not, education level, class size, school’s population and school environment’s level of socioeconomic status). In this study quantitative and qualitative research methods are used. 244 questionnaires were evaluated. In this descriptive survey study, the scale of ‘Child Abuse and Neglect by Parents’ developed by Karaman (1993) is used. For qualitative method, t-test, ANOVA and Kruskall Wallis test were used; for quantitative method content analysis was used. From the analysis of qualitative data, there has been a significant difference between the opinions of teachers in terms of gender, seniority, number of students in the classroom and total number of students in the school. For analyzing quantitative data, teachers’ opinions were evaluated by categorizing as “communication”, “education”, “research” and “general measure”. Teachers think that in order to prevent children from child abuse and neglect, it is important to be in constant contact with the students and parents and to give educational programs about child abuse and neglect to firstly parents then teachers and students.
