FRANSIZ RESSAM ALEXANDRE BİDA’NIN RESİMLERİNDE ORYANTALİST ETKİLER
2019

Abstract:

Abstract:

Orientalism, which developed as a branch of science in the 19th century and derived from the French word "Orientalism", was originally used in the sense of the study of the Eastern humanity in terms of religion, language and history, but began to be used in the middle of the century to indicate a kind of painting on the Eastern world. The Western artists, who have been influenced by Islam and Eastern cultures, have reflected in their paintings what they see here in their own perspectives, in their interests, in the general sense 'Eastern', and in particular in the Ottoman territories. Alexandre Bida, who is part of the Romantic movement in France, has been among the artists who go to the East, and has managed to attract his attention since the time with his work on the Orientalist subject. The artist has traveled to Egypt, Greece, Turkey, Lebanon and Palestine and has returned from this journey with numerous paintings. Bida’s paintings are mostly made up of panoramic images of cities, architectural structures and figurative works on the subject of people living in cities. Like most Orientalist artists, Bida has depicted the Ottoman-Eastern figures with details about local clothes, weapons, fabric and exotic objects and in different scenes. In this article, the artist will focus on the Orientalist effects in the litography, tree printing and carcass work and will discuss the symbolism in the art concept.

Although Orientalism developed as a science branch in the 19th century and derived from the word "Orientalisme" in French was originally used in the meaning of studying the eastern people in terms of religion, language and history, the term was also being used to indicate a painting pattern about the Eastern world towards the middle of the century. Influenced by the Islamic and eastern culture, Western artists have reflected on their own perspective the images they saw here, going to the ‘Eastern’ territories in general terms and the Ottoman lands in particular. Alexandre Bida, who is in the Romantic Movement in France, was among the artists who went to the East, andhas tried to attract attention with his Orientalist studies since his time. The artist went to Egypt, Greece, Turkey, Lebanon and Palestine during his journey to the East, and returned from this journey with numerous paintings. The paintings of Bida mainly consist of the figurative works about panoramic views and architectural structures of the cities and people living in the cities. Like most Orientalist artists, Bida has described the Ottoman-Orient figures in different scenes with details of local clothes, weapons, fabrics and exotic objects.
