Bu araştırmanın amacı, dil eğitimi ve öğretimi süreçlerinde öğreticilerin kelime öğretimi uygulamalarında başvurdukları stratejileri belirlemeye yönelik olarak bir kelime öğretim stratejileri ölçeği (KÖSÖ) geliştirmektir. Ölçeğin geliştirilmesi sürecinde alan yazının taranması, stratejilerin belirlenerek maddeler halinde yazılması, uzman görüşüne başvurulması, ölçeğin uygulanması ve ölçeğin geçerlik ve güvenirlik çalışmalarının yapılması şeklinde bir yol haritası izlenmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubu dil eğitimi alanında çalışan 567 öğreticiden oluşmaktadır. Veriler 2018-2019 eğitim-öğretim yılında farklı okullarda görev yapan öğreticilerden basılı ve sanal olarak toplanmıştır. 5’li likert tipinde hazırlanan ölçekle gerçekleştirilen uygulama sonrasında elde edilen verilere öncelikle açımlayıcı faktör analizi yapılmıştır. Açımlayıcı faktör analizinin sonucuna göre 50 madde ve 6 faktörden oluşan bir yapı elde edilmiş ve faktörlerin toplam varyansın %65.92’sini açıkladığı tespit edilmiştir. Elde edilen verilere geçerlik analizleri kapsamında doğrulayıcı faktör analizi yapılmış ve indekslerin uyumlu olduğu görülmüştür. Ölçeğin güvenirliğini ortaya koymak için gerçekleştirilen Cronbach Alfa analizinin sonucuna göre de ölçeğin güvenirlik değerinin .89 olduğu saptanmıştır. Tüm bu sonuçlar geliştirilen kelime öğretim stratejileri ölçeği’nin geçerli ve güvenilir olduğunu göstermektedir. Bu ölçek aracılığıyla öğreticilerin kelime öğretirken kullandıkları stratejiler ve bu stratejileri işe koşma durum ve sıklıklarının belirlenmesi hedeflenmektedir. Bu sayede öğreticilerin kelime öğretimi konusundaki eksiklikleri ve yeterlilikleri ortaya konularak kelime öğretimi özelinde yapılacak eğitimlerdeki öğrenme-öğretme etkinlikleri buna göre düzenlenebilecektir. Ayrıca bu ölçek, öğreticilerin kelime öğretimi çerçevesinde yapabileceklerine yönelik yol gösterici olarak da kullanabilecekleri niteliktedir.
The aim of this research is to develop a scale of words teaching strategies (CIS) aimed at determining the strategies that teachers apply in the vocabulary teaching practices in language education and teaching processes. In the process of the development of the scale, the scan of the field text, the determination of strategies and the writing of the materials, the application of the expert opinion, the implementation of the scale and the conduct of the scale’s validity and reliability studies have been followed by a road map. The study’s work group consists of 567 teachers working in the field of language education. The data was printed and visually collected from teachers working in different schools in the 2018-2019 educational year. The data obtained after the application on the scale prepared in the likert type 5 was first analyzed by the detection factor. According to the results of the opening-factor analysis, a structure consisting of 50 substances and 6 factors was obtained and the factors were found to explain 65.92% of the total variance. The data obtained in the framework of validity analysis was verifying factor analysis and the indicators were found to be compatible. According to the Cronbach Alfa analysis, the reliability value of the measurement is .89. All of these results show that the scale of the word teaching strategies developed is valid and reliable. Through this scale, it is aimed at determining the strategies that teachers use when teaching words and the conditions and frequencies of employing these strategies. Thus, the teachers will be able to identify the deficiencies and skills of the teachers in the field of vocabulary, and the learning and teaching activities in the field of vocabulary will be organized accordingly. In addition, this scale can also be used as a guide to what teachers can do in the framework of word teaching.
The aim of this research is to develop a vocabulary teaching strategies scale (VTSS) for determining the strategies that teachers use in vocabulary teaching practices within language education and teaching process. During the development process of the scale, a road map was followed in the way that reviewing of literature, determining strategies and writing them item-by-item, taking expert opinion, implementing the scale and conducting validity and reliability studies of the scale. The study group of the research consist of 567 instructors who work in the field of language education. The data were collected in the 2018-2019 academic year via printed and virtual form. Firstly, exploratory factor analysis was applied to the data that are obtained from implementation of 5-point Likert type scale. According to the result of exploratory factor analysis, a structure which consisted of 6 factors and 50 items was emerged, and it was understood that these factors explain 65.92% of the total variance. Then confirmatory factor analysis was performed on the data and indexes were found to be compatible. In order to reveal the reliability of the scale, Cronbach Alpha analysis was conducted and the value of the reliability of the scale was calculated as .89. All these results show that the Vocabulary Teaching Strategies Scale is valid and reliable. With this scale, it is aimed to determine the strategies preferred by teachers, as they are teaching vocabulary, and the frequency of the use of these strategies. In this way, it will be possible to reveal sufficiency and deficiencies of vocabulary teaching, and learning-teaching activities in the education of vocabulary teaching can be arranged accordingly. Besides, this scale is qualified for being used as a guide to show instructors how they can teach vocabulary.
