Ortaokul Öğrencilerinin Mülteci Öğrencilere Yönelik Düşüncelerinin ve Tutumlarının Belirlenmesi

Son yıllarda Suriye’de meydana gelen iç çatışma ve bunun sonucunda ortaya çıkan savaş ortamından dolayı, Türkiye’ye yönelik yoğun bir göç hareketi ortaya çıkmıştır. Suriyeden Türkiye’ye gelen mültecilerin büyük bir bölümünü 18 yaş altındaki bireyler oluşturmaktadır. Bu Suriyeli sıgınmacıların bir bölümü Geçici Eğitim Merkezleri’nde (GEM) eğitim görmekle birlikte, bir bölümü ise yapılan yasal düzenlemeler sayesinde devlet okullarına devam etmektedirler. Bu çerçevede Suriyeli mülteci çocukların Türk eğitim sistemine uyum ve kaliteli bir eğitime erişim sağlamaları önem arzetmektedir. Bu araştırmanın amacı ortaokul öğrencilerinin mülteci öğrencilere yönelik düşüncelerinin ve tutumlarının belirlenmesidir. Araştırmaya, 2017-2018 eğitim-öğretim yılında Ankara ili Mamak ilçesinde Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı’na bağlı okullarda öğrenim gören 5, 6, 7 ve 8. sınıf öğrencileri katılmıştır. Araştırmada, verilerin toplanmasında nitel ve nicel araştırma yöntemlerinin birlikte kullanıldığı karma yöntem deseni benimsenmiş, yakınsayan paralel desen kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın nicel boyutunda Kılcan, Çepni ve Kılınç (2017) tarafından geliştirilmiş “Mülteci öğrencilere yönelik tutum ölçeği” nitel boyutta ise araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen “yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu” kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın amacı çerçevesinde öğrencilerin tutum ölçeğine verecekleri cevaplara ait toplanan verilerin gerekli istatistiksel çözümleri için nicel analizde SPSS (Statistical Packet for Social Sciences) programından, nitel analizde ise içerik analizinden yararlanılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonuçlarından bazıları şunlardır: (1) katılımcıların mülteci deyince akıllarına gelen ilk şeyin savaştan kaçan insanlar olduğu ve daha sonra mülteci kavramını Suriyeli ve yardıma muhtaç insanlar olarak belirttikleri, (2) öğrencilerin büyük bir bölümü mültecilerin Türkiye’ye gelmesini olumlu karşılamakla birlikte bunun yanında bazı katılımcılar mültecilerin Türkiye’de bulunmasından hoşnut olmadıklarını dile getirmektedirler. Araştırma sonuçları ilgili alan yazınla ilişkili bir şekilde tartışılmış ve bazı öneriler sunulmuştur.

Abstract:

Due to the internal conflict in Syria in recent years and the resulting war environment, an intense immigration movement towards Turkey has emerged. The majority of refugees from Syria to Turkey are persons under the age of 18. Some of these Syrian refugees are studying at Temporary Education Centers (GEM), while some continue to attend public schools thanks to the legal regulations. In this framework, it is important that Syrian refugees children are adapted to the Turkish educational system and have access to quality education. The aim of this research is to determine the thoughts and attitudes of high school students towards refugee students. The research was attended by students of 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade who studied in schools associated with the Ministry of Education in the Ankara or Mamak district in the 2017-2018 educational-learning year. In the research, the design of the karma method, in which the qualitative and quantitative research methods are used together in the collection of data, has been adopted, the parallel pattern has been used. In the quantitative size of the study, the "square of attitude towards refugees students" developed by Kılcan, Çepni and Kılınç (2017) was used in the "semi-structured conversation form" developed by the researchers. In the framework of the research, the data collected on the responses that students will give to the attitude scale were used in quantitative analysis for the necessary statistical solutions from the SPSS (Statistical Packet for Social Sciences) program and in quality analysis from the content analysis. Some of the findings of the study are: (1) the first thing that comes to mind when the participants say refugees is that they are people who flee the war and then refer the concept of refugees as Syrians and people in need of assistance, (2) the majority of the students welcome the arrival of refugees to Turkey positively, while some participants say that they are not happy with the presence of refugees in Turkey. The research results were discussed in a way related to the field and some recommendations were presented.

Recent years have witnessed an internal disturbance and an environment of war in Syria and this resulted in a dense immigration from Syria to Turkey. An important part of the immigrants were under-18 people. Most of the Syrian refugees are being educated in Temporary Education Centers (TES) and a number of them study in the state schools with necessary formal regulations. This adds to the importance of the notion that Syrian refuges students should adapt to Turkish national education system and achieve a quality education. The purpose of this study is to determine the opinions and attitudes of secondary school students on refugee students. The participants of the study were 5, 6, 7, and 8. grade students studying in secondary schools affiliated to Ministry of National Education in Ankara, Mamak in 2017-2018 education year. This study conducted convergent parallel design under mixed method research in which qualitative and quantitative research method are used together. In the quantitative part of the study, we used Attitude towards Refugee Students Scale developed by Kılcan, Çepni and Kılınç (2017) and in the qualitative part, a semi-structured interview form developed by the researchers. The quantitative data were analyzed via SPSS (Statistical Packet for Social Sciences) and the qualitative data were analyzed through content analysis. Some of the results of the study were as follows: (1) the first thing the word “refugee” reminds them of the people who are escaping from the war and that they stated the concept of refugee as those who are Syrian and in need of help, (2) majority of the students had positive perceptions of the notion that Syrian refugees came to Turkey, however, some of the participants stated they were not happy with this. The results of the study were discussed in line with the related literature and some suggestions were presented.
