SPOR MERKEZLERİNDE EGZERSİZ BAĞIMLILIĞININ İNCELENMESİ
2019

Abstract:

2019

Abstract:

Most of human behaviors are seen as normal until they show extreme. Therefore, special exercise coaches need to consider these kinds of signs to assess whether a person is addicted. Disability, illness, social or work life, despite the limitations, is one of the important signs of exercise addiction that the exercise time is uncontrollable and individuals shape their own life or lifestyle according to their exercise programs. The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of exercise addiction in the participation in sports centers. The study included a total of 391 healthy individuals from 13 different sports centers, aged 18 and older, who took training for at least 1 year (242 men, 149 women) as volunteers. The participants were asked about demographic characteristics with the survey form developed by Hausenblas and Downs (2002) and the Exercise Addiction Measurement was applied, which consisted of 21 articles adapted to Turkish by Yeltepe and Twins (2007). The obtained data was evaluated in the statistical package program, from the parametric tests Mann-Whitney U to the non-parametric tests Kruskall Wallis was used, the significance level p<0,05 was accepted. The study found that participants were sensitive to the scale of exercise dependency (69.43) while the scale was symptomatically identified (3.30). When the participants’ exercise addiction average was categorized, 10 participants (2,55) were asymptomatic, 352 participants (90.02) were non-dependic symptomatic, and 29 participants (7.41) were at risk of exercise addiction. The symptomatic group was significantly different from the other two groups. Furthermore, the average exercise addiction has found statistically significant differences according to exercise age, regular exercise and weekly exercise frequency. It was found that gender, age, civic status, level of education and daily exercise time did not affect exercise addiction. As a result, the exercise resume can be said that regular exercise and frequency in high individuals can be effective in determining exercise addiction.

Abstract:

Most of the human behavior is seen as normal until it shows excess. Therefore, special exercise coaches must take into account such symptoms to assess whether the person is dependent. One of the most important symptoms of exercise dependence is that exercise time cannot be controlled despite the limitations related to disability, disease, social or working life, and individuals' shaping their life or lifestyles according to exercise programs. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of exercise dependence on participation in sports centers. A total of 391 (242 male, 149 female) healthy volunteers participated in the study from 13 different sports centers, 18 years of age and over, and at least 1 year of training. A questionnaire was used to question the demographic characteristics of the participants and a 21-item Exercise Dependence Scale developed by Hausenblas and Downs (2002) and adapted to Turkish by Yeltepe and İkizler (2007) was applied. The data were evaluated in statistical package program, Mann-Whitney U and nonparametric tests Kruskall Wallis were used in parametric tests, p <0.05 was considered significant. In the result of the research; while participants showed moderate sensitivity to exercise dependence scale (69,43), the value in terms of scale was defined as symptomatic (3,30). When the exercise dependence averages of the participants were categorized, 10 participants (2.55%) were asymptomatic, 352 participants (90.02%) were non-dependent symptomatic, and 29 participants (7.41%) were at risk of exercise dependence. The symptomatic group was significantly different from the other two groups. There were also statistically significant differences in exercise dependence mean age of exercise, regular training and weekly training frequency. Gender, age, marital status, level of education and daily exercise duration were not affected by exercise dependence. As a result, it can be said that regular exercise and frequency in individuals with higher education background can be effective in determining exercise dependence.
