Abstract:

Felt making has become a traditional profession over time, depending on the social, cultural characteristics and lifestyle of the people in Turkish handicrafts. In the Turkish history, felt products, both in clothing and in the culture of hospitality, have become a status indicator in society as well as being an object in meeting daily needs. Felt household items and clothing pieces that are frequently used in the Seljuk Period and Mevlevi Tarik attire accelerated the progress of felting as a profession, especially in the province of Konya. In this rich heritage, some of the original felt samples produced in Konya province are exhibited in various museums located in the city center by reaching daily. The scope of the study, Turkey's felt making display while depicting the architecture referred to as Rumi Konya Museums and art on the land with embroidered felt rug samples. It was aimed to examine and document the construction and decoration features of the three-embroidered felt prayer rugs selected from the Mevlâna Museum and Ethnography Museum collections in the study. In this context, it is important to convey the characteristics of being a concrete cultural heritage that reflects the socio-cultural characteristics of the society, as well as the qualities of functional objects in the historical period in which felt praying rugs are used.
