Abstract:

Ercüment Ekrem Talu (1888-1956) has made great contributions to the Turkish literature in the Meşrutiyet and Republic periods by his works, such as his fictions, essays and newspaper columns. Many of his writings were in the field of humor, which were well known and cherished by the masses, but the research about the author is still limited. This situation has also made passing his works to younger generations difficult. The known bibliography of the author is mostly based on two investigations: Rahim Tarım’s “Ercüment Ekrem Talu Üzerine Bir Bibliyografya Denemesi” (1990) and Alaattin Karaca's unpublished PhD thesis Ercümend Ekrem Talu’nun Edebiyat ve Basın Dünyasındaki Yeri (1993). Recently, another novel of the author titled Meşhedi Harp Muhabiri (1946-1947) has been discovered. The simultaneous publication of several of his works in many different newspapers and magazines has made it difficult to build a complete list of his works. This article contains a list of some stories and novels that have been serialized in various journals but not published in book form, as well as other writings, none of which are listed in existing bibliographies. A long story titled “Habeşistan’da Bir Türk” (1935), a series of stories entitled “Ese ile Musa” (1947); his novels Deli Vâfire (1947-1948) and Torik Necmi Demir Perde Arkasında (1951) have not been included in any bibliography before. First, these works were summarized, and then various newspaper columns, short stories, essays and memoirs, which were not included in the existing bibliographies, were listed under the name of the magazines they are published. A few of these writings have actually been republished elsewhere. But, in order to preserve the integrity of the complete list, those republished writings are also included in the lists. With this study, a few more of the works of Ercüment Ekrem are brought to daylight.
