Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to determine the communication skills of pre-service music teachers. t is a sub-goal of research to determine whether communication skill level is significantly different from gender, academic achievement grade and graduated high school type variables. In order to determine the communication skills of the pre-service music teachers, the 'Communication Skills Assessment Scale' developed by Korkut and Bugay (2014). A 5-point Likert-type scale developed with the aim of understanding how individuals evaluate communication skills is composed of 25 items. The first factor is called "Communication Principles and Basic Skills", the second factor is 'Expressing Self', the third factor is 'Active Listening and Non Verbal Communication' and the fourth factor is 'Willing to Communicate'. The coefficient of validity of the scale was calculated as .58. The Cronbach Alfa Reliability coefficient of the scale was .87 (p <.001). Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Faculty of Education Fine Arts Education Department Music Education Department 53 students are the working group. The majority of the students in the study group were found to have good and very good communication skills regarding all the factors of scale. In addition, it has been found that there is no significant difference between the communication skills of students in the study group and gender, academic achievement grade and high school type they graduated from.
