Abstract:

Modernization movement in the Islamic World emerged as a kind of religious movement and have been continued in similar way. İn other words, modernization attemps have been a part of religious tuought and interpretation endevours of the Religion. At this point, Second Constitutional era, with its initial impacts, is very crucial period since it was the phase of the ideas which had insatalled the Republic merged. İn this era, with the prevalence of İslamist World wiev, the İslamists published many important periodical publication. Among these publicators Sebilrüşşead and İslam Journal has significant places in the intellectual life of the period because of their theological and political positioning. These two journals are very important because they represent both the discussion which continued after the Secont Constitutional era and in the Republican era, and the differances which began to emerge within the İslamist thought. This study aims to reveal the historical-sociological reality at the İslamic modernization debates in the given era by presenting a charecteristic section of the debates of Sebilürreşad and İslam Journal between 1914-1918. İn order to achieve this aim, this study discusses following four topics. –mutually debated in these two jounals- which have been important both in relevant time period and in the general modernization processes of the İslamic thought, and can be attached to the main headings such as family, low, knowledge, politics: “poligamy”, “sociological islamic law proceduse”, “İslam and progress” and “İslam and nationality”.
