Okul Öncesi Öğretmenlerinin Okul Öncesi Dönemde Çevre Eğitimine İlişkin Görüşleri: Durum Çalışması

Çevre eğitimi, insanın doğaya egemen olma çabasının neticesinde ortaya çıkan çevre bozulmasını gidermeyi amaçlayan yeni bir eğitim alanıdır. Çevre eğitimi bireylerde biliş, duyuş ve davranış değişikliği kazandırma konusunda önem taşımaktadır. Sürdürülebilirlik için toplumların en önemli sorumluluklarından biri, çocuklara çevrelerinin korunmasına yönelik tutum, değer, bilgi ve gerekli olan becerileri kazandırmaktır. Okul öncesi dönemde çevre eğitiminin öneminin farkedilmesine rağmen yaygınlaşması son yıllarda gerçekleşmiştir. Türkiye’de de yaşam alanlarının yok olması ve çevre sorunlarının artış göstermesiyle tüm yaş gruplarına yönelik çevre eğitimi sunmaya yönelik girişimler devam etmektedir. Sunulan bu eğitimlerin özellikle okul öncesi döneme yönelik hazırlanan programların yeterli olmadığı görülmektedir. Çevre eğitimi, okul öncesi dönemde doğal ortamlarda ve bilinçli öğretmenler tarafından verildiğinde verimli olmaktadır. Araştırmalar okul öncesi eğitim programının ve okul öncesi öğretmenlerinin çevre eğitimi konusunda yeterli olmadığı ortaya koymaktadır. Bu bilgiler doğrultusunda araştırmanın amacı okul öncesi öğretmenlerinin okul öncesi dönemde çevre eğitimine ilişkin görüşleri hakkında derinlemesine bilgi elde etmek, okul öncesi dönemde çevre eğitimindeki yetersizlikleri belirlemek ve okul öncesi öğretmenlerinin çevre eğitimine yönelik farkındalıklarını arttırmaktır. Araştırmanın örneklemini Kırklareli ilinin Babaeski ilçesindeki tüm anaokullarındaki ve anasınıflarındaki okul öncesi öğretmenlerinden, araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden 14 okul öncesi öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Veriler nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme tekniği aracılığıyla elde edilmiştir. Elde edilen veriler içerik analizi tekniklerinden kategori analizi kullanılarak incelenmiştir. Araştırmanın bulgularına göre katılımcıların çevre eğitimi hakkındaki bilgilerinin yetersiz olduğu ve çevre eğitimi uygulamalarını kısıtlayan pek çok olumsuz etkenin olduğu tespit edilmiştir.

Environmental education is a new field of education aimed at removing the environmental deterioration that arises as a result of the effort of man to dominate nature. Environmental education has an importance in bringing cognitive, sensory and behavioral changes to individuals. One of the most important responsibilities of communities for sustainability is to provide children with attitudes, values, knowledge and skills needed to protect their environment. Despite the importance of environmental education in the pre-school period, its spread has occurred in recent years. In Turkey, the efforts to provide environmental education for all age groups continue with the disappearance of living spaces and the increase in environmental problems. These programs, especially for the pre-school period, are not sufficient. Environmental education is efficient in the pre-school period in natural environments and when provided by conscious teachers. Research shows that the pre-school education program and pre-school teachers are not sufficient in environmental education. According to this information, the purpose of the research is to gain deeper knowledge about the views of pre-school teachers on environmental education in the pre-school period, to identify deficiencies in environmental education in the pre-school period and to increase the awareness of pre-school teachers on environmental education. The sample of the research is made up of 14 pre-school teachers from all the kindergartens in the Babeski district of the province of Kırklareli and their native school teachers who agree to participate in the research. The data is obtained from the quality research methods through a semi-configured conversation technique. The data obtained was studied using category analysis from content analysis techniques. The findings of the study show that participants have insufficient knowledge about environmental education and there are many negative factors that limit environmental education practices.

Environmental education is a new field of education that emerges as a result of the perception that environmental degradation caused by human efforts to dominate nature can be compensated by itself. Environmental education is the main way of creating the necessary cognitive, affective and behavioral changes in the person. One of the most important tasks of every community for sustainable living is to equip children with attitudes, values, knowledge and skills necessary to protect their environment. Environmental education in preschool period has become widespread in recent years, even though it has great importance in terms of individual and social care. In parallel with environmental problems in Turkey, environmental education continues to grow and develop in all age groups. It seems that the programs prepared for the 5-6 year old group in which preschool education is continuing in these age groups are still not enough. As seen in the literature, environmental education is efficient in natural environments in preschool period and when given by qualified, conscious teachers. In environmental education, the environment, the educational program and the role of the teacher are very important. Previous research suggests that the preschool education program and preschool teachers are not good at environmental education. The aim of this study is to get in-depth knowledge regarding knowledge of views of prospective preschool teachers’ about environmental education in preschool period, to identify the inadequacies of environmental education in the preschool period and to raise awareness of preschool teachers about environmental education.The sample of the research composed of 14 preschool teachers who accept to participate in the research from all kindergartens in Babaeski district of Kırklareli province. The data were collected through a semi-structured interview form and analyzed by content analysis technique. According to the findings of the research, it was determined that the information about the environmental education of participant preschool teachers is inadequate and there are many negative factors that restrict the environmental education practices.
