Destanlar, yaşadığı çağa tanıklık eden milletlerin hayatında derin izler bırakmış olayları, zaferleri, felâketleri, millî duyguları dile getiren manzum eserler olmanın yanında geçmiş hakkında günümüze bilgi aktaran birer araçtır. Bu çalışmada, Türk destanlarında çocuk imgesinin belirlemesi ve Türk toplumlarının çocuğu nasıl algıladığının ortaya konması amaçlanmıştır. Tarama modelinin kullanıldığı çalışma nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden doküman incelemesi tekniği ile yürütülmüş ve alan yazınında yapılan sınıflandırmalardan yararlanılarak çalışmaya geçmişten günümüze kadar gelen 16 Türk destanı dâhil edilmiştir. Birçok sınıflandırılması yapılan Türk destanları alanyazında yapılan sınıflandırmalardan yararlanılarak; Oğuz Kağan Destanı, Alp Er Tunga Destanı, Bozkurt Destanı, Atilla Destanı, Ergenekon Destanı, Türeyiş Destanı, Göç Destanı, Yaratılış Destanı, Şu Destanı, Saltuk Buğra Han Destanı, Manas Destanı, Cengizhan Destanı, Ediğe Destanı, Seyyid Battalgazi Destanı, Köroğlu Destanı, Danişmend Gazi Destanı, Dede Korkut Hikayeleri çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Destanların analizinde öncelikle belirlenen destanların orijinalliği incelenmiştir. Daha sonra üç araştırmacı tarafından incelenen destanlarda çocuğa ilişkin anlatımlar belirlenmiş ve bu anlatımlardan yola çıkarak tema ve alt temalar oluşturulmuştur. Üç araştırmacı arasında uyuşum yüzdesi % 81,55 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Destanlar çocuk isteği, çocuğun doğumu, çocuğun özellikleri, çocuğun büyümesi, çocuğun eğitimi, çocuktan beklentiler ve çocuğa saygı olmak üzere yedi tema ve bunlara ilişkin alt temalara ayrılmıştır. Tema ve alt temalara ilişkin elde edilen bulgular literatürle desteklenerek tartışılmıştır.

Epics, events that have left deep traces in the lives of the nations that have witnessed the age of the epic, victories, disasters, and national emotions as well as being poetic works, are tools that transmit daily information about the past. In this study, it is aimed to determine the image of children in Turkish epics and show how Turkish societies perceive the child. The study, in which the screening model was used, was carried out by qualitative research methods using the document review technique. By using the classifications in the literature, 16 Turkic epics from the past to the present day were included. In the analysis of the epics, the originality of the selected epics was examined first. By making use of classifications made in the field of Turkish Epics, which have been classified many times, Epic of Oguz Kagan, Epic of Alp Er Tunga, Epic of Bozkurt, Epic of Atilla, Epic of Ergenekon, Epic of Türeyiş, Epic of Migration, Epic of Creation, Epic of Şu, Epic of Saltuk Buğra Han, Epic of Manas, Epic of Cengizhan, Epic of Ediğe, Epic of Seyyid Battalgazi, Epic of Köroğlu, Epic Of Danişmend Gazi, Dede Korkut Stories were included in the study. Later, the narratives about child were determined in the epics inspected by three researchers, and the themes and sub-themes were drawn from these narratives. Percentage of agreement between the three investigators was calculated as 81.55%. Epics are divided into seven themes and their sub-themes: desire to have children, child birth, child's characteristics, child's growth, child's education, expectation from the child and respect for the child. Findings related to themes and sub-themes have been discussed with support of the literature.
