Deyimler, bir dilin sözvarlığını oluşturan en önemli kültürel ögelerdir. Bir milletin çağlar boyunca devam ettirdiği yaşayışını, geleneklerini, inanışlarını, hayata bakış açılarını ortaya koymaktadır. Bu sözcük öbekleri, toplumun hafızasını canlı tutan, ilgi çekici anlamlar içeren, nesillerden nesillere aktarılan ortak mirastır. Binlerce yıllık tarihimizi yansıtan, toplumun sözlü ve yazılı ifadesine akıcılık ve güç katan, anlam zenginliği ve derinliğine sahip kalıplaşmış kelime gruplarıdır. Bu çalışmada Çağatay Türkçesi dönemine ait on altı eser incelenmiştir. Çağatay Türkçesinin sözvarlığı içerisinde yer alan deyimlerin bu eserlerde de sıkça kullanıldığı tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca bu kalıplaşmış söz öbeklerinin anlatıma zenginlik ve derinlik kattığı görülmektedir. Bu çalışmada deyimler şekil ve anlam yönünden incelenmektedir. Şekil yönünden, cümle hükmünde deyimler ve cümle hükmünde olmayan deyimler; anlam yönünden sözcükte anlam ve cümlede anlam olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Şekil yönünden cümle hükmünde deyimler; çekimli fiil alarak kullanılan deyimler, mastar şekliyle kullanılan deyimler, emir kipiyle kullanılan deyimler olarak tasnif edilmiştir. Ayrıca cümle hükmünde deyimler ve cümle hükmünde olmayan deyimler; kök halinde ve gövde halinde deyimler olarak iki grupta değerlendirilmiştir. Çağatay Türkçesinde tespit edilen deyim örneklerinden Kutadgu Bilig’de tanıklananlar varsa bu deyim örneklerine de yer verilmiştir. Deyimlerin kullanıldığı beyitlerden ve cümlelerden örnekler verilmiştir. Türk dilinin diğer dönemlerinde olduğu gibi bu dönemde de deyimlerin önemli bir yeri olduğu hem manzum hem de mensur eserde kullanıldığı görülmüştür. Ayrıca deyimlerin, insanların yaşadığı olayların özetini ifade eden ve onları çok yönlü düşünmeye sevk eden, dilin sözvarlığının vazgeçilmez ögesi olduğu bir kez daha tanıklanmıştır.

Idioms are important cultural components that carve out lexicology of any language. Idioms have revealed way of living, customs, religious beliefs and a nation’s life perspective that maintain throughout generations. These lexical groups keep the community's memories alive, contain attractive meanings and transmit mutual heritage between generations. Idioms reflect our historical eras and they are stereotyped word groups that provide meaning richness and depth. They support written and verbal statements. In this study, sixteen literary works which have in Chagatai Turkish period have been examined. İdioms which situated in Chagatai Turkish vocabulary often have been used in these period works. It can also be seen that these stereotyped vocabularies provide richness and deepness to the expressions. In this study, idioms have been examined in terms of morphology and semantic. In terms of form, idioms in the form of sentence and idioms that are not in the form of sentence; In terms of meaning, meaning in the sentence and meaning in the word. In terms of form; idioms in the form of sentence have classified in that: Idioms that take finite verb, idioms used as infinitive, idioms used with imperative. Besides, idioms in the form of sentence and idioms that are not in the form of sentence have examined as base and stem in two groups. Idiom examples are given from sentences and couplets that have in examined works. In addition, in this study, idioms that have in Kutadgu Bilig have also examined. As in other periods of Turkish language, in this era, idioms have an important place in both poetic and prose works. Idioms are irrevocable parts of language’s vocabulary and this feature of idioms have been verified in these examples. Besides they represent the summary of life, and they provide multi-directional thinking.
