Geçiş Ritüellerinden Doğum: Sağaltım Yolları
2017
Journal:
Turkish Studies
Author:
Abstract:

2017
Journal:
Turkish Studies
Author:
Abstract:

Birth, one of the transition rituals, is welcomed by certain ceremonial practices, although it is a biological phenomenon. The mother and baby, believed to be unprotected, are protected by various religious/magical processes. The practices for the protection of mother and baby after birth have been found to continue in the villages of Dikili. This article will review the postpartum practices that are changing. While the traditional practices associated with Central Asia appear to continue to be compatible with the Muslim tradition, some traditions have also begun to change. Traditional practices that have been ongoing since the past have changed as they continue to exist. Modernization and the facilities provided in communication and transport have been observed to create changes in traditional applications. With modernization, some of the traditional methods of supply, especially, have begun to change or disappear in traditional practices with the modern medicine taking its place. On the other hand, it has been found that the existence of applications such as "salting" especially applied to babies as a means of supply continues. The article evaluates postpartum practices that differ from the past to the present. For this purpose, information about postpartum practices has been recorded visually/hearingly using the oral date method. The records are decrypted; interpretative paradigm is assessed. The study was conducted between 14 July and 16 September 2016 and between 25 and 27 November 2016 in some villages of the Dikili district. The article contains findings from the villages that describe themselves as Yörük and Balkan migrants.
