Abstract:

One of the 18th-century poets Erzurumlu Rahmi (d. 1808/9), was grown in the Classical Turkish Literature epoch, and one of the outstanding poets of his era. He was born in Erzurum. He had had a good education since his childhood and worked as a muderris in different madrasas in Istanbul. Because of his muderris quality, he had been called as “Hoca Rahmi” in his period. He died in 1223/1808-09 in Istanbul. He had a strong mystic identity as well as his knowledge. The poet whose poems were mystical, wrote out eulogy, münacat, hymn mostly. His four opuses, which are Divan, Refîk-ı Tarîk, İnşâ-yı Mergûb ve Avâmil-i Âtîka, are known. Beyond the doubt, his most famous opus is his Divan. Available information states that there are three episodes that are registered in domestic and overseas records. However, at the end of our researches, we confirmed that those two episodes do not belong to Erzurumlu Rahmi, instead they belong to other poets whose pseudonyms were “Rahmi”. There is a record in the “Yapı Kredi Sermet Çifter Araştırma Kütüphanesi Türkçe Yazmalar No:508/2” which is considered the edition of Turkey. Nevertheless, this brief manuscript, Mecmūʿa-i Eşʿār, which is registered with the name of Erzurumlu Rahmi, does not belong to Erzurumlu Rahmi. In the Fatin Tezkiresi, the first ode whose first couplet is; “Seyret o mahı mihr ü felek söyledim saña Ḥüsn-i perile reşk-i melek söyledim saña” is recorded with the name of Kirimli Rahmi who has been mentioned above. We, by ourselves provided the editions from above-mentioned library. We decided that this work is not similar with the author edited Divan we have. It is certain that this edition which is the 19-leaf anthology of ode belongs to Kirimli Rahmi. In this article, Erzurumlu Rahmi’s life, literary personality, and opuses will be mentioned. Then specimens of his Divan will be presented along with Divan’s definition, poetic and content features.
