The Turkish word “gunah” (sin) originates from Arabic “junah” and means crime, fault or negative state. Generally, sins are prohibitions validated/regulated by divine authority. Sinning is mainly a religious term although it is usually handled with the psychological concept of guilt. It is defined as the “violation of divine law” by western philosophers, while Islamic thinkers evaluated it as parting from the whole, to be against public order, and uprising. According to Quran, goodness and beauties that make up the majority of life are good deeds whereas bad deeds which are exceptional and non-essential are sin. Moreover, in the hadith sins and haram are illicit/wrong actions which disturb one’s heart. Therefore, sin was considered as a non-esssential state by Elmali Hamdi, whereas it was regarded as poisonous food by Nursi and Gazali. Also, according to Nursi, the reason why sins (described as wounds of the heart and spirit) disturb people is because they are nonexistence. According to him the sources of troubles, sorrows and problems are nonexistence or evil acts that result in nonexistence.
