Edebiyatın doğuşu ve edebi türlerin gelişmesinde milletler veya kavimler arasındaki kültürel karşılaşma ve etkileşimler, toplumsal kargaşa ve çatışmalar gibi belirleyici olan sebepler vardır. Bu sebeplerin en merkezi olanlarından biri de dini anlayışlar, kabuller ve yaşantılardır. Sosyoloji ve edebiyat ilişkisi ise, edebi eserleri merkeze alarak oluşturulmuş modern bir olgudur. Bu disiplinler arası alan eser, yazar, okur, yayım olmak üzere dört bileşenden oluşur. Yöntemlerinde metnin içerik ve konusundan hareket etmekle birlikte bunların dışında var olan ilişkileri, grupları, yazar-şair, yayıncı ve okur ilişki ağlarını, toplumda geçerli okuma biçimlerini, okumanın sebep ve sonuçlarını veri olarak kullanır. Sosyolojiye konu olması bakımından edebiyat, doğuşundan bugüne değin edebi eserin metninde mündemiç sosyal ilişki ağını incelemeye çalışır. Nazım ve mensur her edebi ürün kısmen muhayyel kısmen gerçek sosyal bir zemine oturur. Dolayısıyla edebi eserlerin içinden neşvünema ettiği toplum kesimleri veya sınıflarının paylaştıkları bilinç ve yaşantılar arasında bağlantıları kurmaya çalışması edebiyat sosyolojisinin birincil amaçlarındandır. Osmanlı’da edebiyatın sosyal hayatın içine girmesi Batı romanlarının Türkçeye uyarlanması ile başlatılır. Edebiyat sosyolojisi araştırma malzemesi olarak neredeyse tamamen romandan beslenir. Şiiri toplumsal zemini olan bir edebi malzeme olarak değerlendiren çalışmalar yok denecek kadar azdır. One of these reasons central to the case is religious perceptions, considerations and practices. The relationship between sociology and literature, on the other hand is a contemporary phenomenon that gives priority to literary works as a field of study. There are some determining reasons that are effective at the birth and development of literary genres such as confrontations and interactions among nations and tribes, social chaos and conflicts. This interdisciplinary field is based on four components namely text, author, reader and process of publishing. Literary sociology basically moves from the contents and themes of the texts. However, apart from these, as its database it necessarily makes use of relation networks, groups, author-reader-publisher relationships, styles of reading in the society, reasons and results of reading. Literature considered as a subject matter within sociology aims to study the network of social relations from its creation by the author till the present day inherent in the literary work. A literary work either prose or poetry is based on a social framework partly realistic and partly imaginary. Therefore, it is one of the primary goals of sociology of literature that it tries to establish links between the consciousness and experiences shared by the social layers out of which the literary work comes into being. The period through which the literature addresses to the social issues in Ottomans begins when the novels written in the West is adapted into Turkish.
