Abstract:

The book is distinct from others not just because of its content but also cover design, colour, font type, font size and layout. When all these elements are blended in harmony, it turns to a unique design, which provides a sufficient communication between a reader and a book. Once the original and unique design is created, it can be last longing as much as the content of a book. As it is known Turkey had used Arabic Alphabet in the past and Latin script is used in present. The comparison of the books which are included combination of those Arabic and Turkish alphabets together would reveal new perspectives in the context of book cover design. It could be said that Arabic letters are preferred in the old forms as in the history while Latin letters distinguish with present forms. It is appearing interesting experiences of design on the book covers that coming together two cultural worlds the using the Arabic letters which was used in the past of Turkey and Latin letters which is used today’s Turkey. However, in very few book covers, it shows successful design harmony with the oval structure of Arabic letters and the angular structure of Latin letters. This situation even seems on the design disharmonies broadcast quality is quite high publishers which are using two letters systems. This disharmony can resolve when it was choiced the selection of oval forms for Latin letters. It reveals another the lack of balance in the design which is using the Arabic letters intensely some samples on designs of book covers and also which is using the Latin letters sparsely.
