Optik disiplinler arası bir konudur. Optikle ilgili olayların anlaşılması; ışığın doğasını işleyen fizik bilimini, gözün işleyişini işleyen fizyoloji bilimini ve görüntü ve renk algılaması konularını işleyen psikoloji biliminin anlaşılmasını gerektirmektedir. Görüntü oluşumu öğrencilerin anlamada zorluk çektikleri konulardan biridir. Çoğu öğrenci gözün cismi dik olarak gördüğünü, görme işleminde gözün aktif olduğunu ve gözün görmek için bir şeyler gönderdiğini düşünmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı 6. sınıf öğrencilerinin görüntü kavramı ile ilgili kavramsal öğrenmelerini belirlemek ve bu kavramsal öğrenmelerin kavramın öğretimi süresince nasıl değiştiğini ortaya koymaktır. Bu amaçla öncelikle fen ve teknoloji dersi / fen bilimleri dersi öğretim programları ve alanyazın taranarak geliştirilen çoktan seçmeli ve açık uçlu sorulardan oluşan kavramsal anlama testi Orta Karadeniz Bölgesi’nde bulunan 3 ilden öğretim öncesi 160 ve öğretim sonrası 156 öğrenciye öğretimden önce ve öğretimden sonra uygulanarak elde edilen veriler, içerik ve frekans analiziyle incelenmiştir. Bu çalışmanın sonuçları öğretilen bilgi ile öğretim programında belirtilen kazanımların örtüşmediğini göstermektedir. Sonuçlar ayrıca öğrencilerin görüntü kavramını görme kavramıyla eşleştirdiklerini ortaya koymaktadır. Araştırma sonuçları, öğretim sonrasında öğrencilerin istendik öğrenmelere sahip oldukları gibi bir takım istenmedik öğrenmelere de sahip olduklarını göstermiştir. Bununla birlikte, öğrencilerin açıklamalarında ve çizimlerinde ışık ışınlarının gözlemcinin gözünden cisme doğru yöneldiğinin gösterilmesi, görme kavramının kavramsal öğreniminde öğrencilerin önemli zorluklarla karşılaştığını göstermektedir. Sonuçları görme kavramının yapılanmasında var olan sorunların, görüntü kavramının kavramsal öğrenimini etkilediğini de ortaya koymaktadır.

Optics is essentially an interdisciplinary subject. Physics (the nature of light), physiology (the functioning of the eye) and psychology (the interpretation of visual and colour perception) are all needed for comprehensive discussions of optical phenomena. Image formation is one of the subjects that students cannot easily understand. Some students think that the eyes see body vertically, the eyes are active in seeing, the eyes send something to body to see. The aim of this study is to analyze and compare the conceptual understanding of grade-6 students regarding image concept before and after instruction. The study was carried out with 160 grade-6 students before and 156 students after instruction. The data was analyzed by using the descriptive analysis method. A data collection device consisting of three open-ended questions and one multiple choice question was developed to evaluate students’ conceptual understanding about the image concept and its change during instruction. The results of the study show that grade-6 students cannot sufficiently comprehend the image formation and they have various disequilibrium and misconceptions even though they make some progress after instruction. It was seen that there was no overlap between assimilated knowledge and the knowledge figured in the curricula. Results showed that students associate image concept with seeing concept. Students’ descriptions and illustrations contained light rays from the object orientation to student’s eyes. This shows that students have difficulties in conceptual learning of image concept. Results of the study showed that students’ difficulties existing in construction of the seeing concepts effect conceptual learning of the related concept.
