Türk eğitim sisteminde sosyal bilgiler öğretim programı 2005 yılından bu yana öğrenci merkezli etkinliklere ve yapılandırmacı yaklaşıma göre uygulanmaktadır. Programın teorik yapısının pratikte de işlevsel olabilmesi için, öğretmenlerin öğrenci merkezli etkinlikler hakkında yeterli donanıma sahip olmaları ve programlarını iyi tanımları gerekmektedir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, sosyal bilgiler öğretmenlerinin sosyal bilgiler öğretim programında yer alan öğretim yöntem ve tekniklerinin uygulanmasına yönelik görüşlerini belirlemektir. Araştırmanın örneklemini, Kahramanmaraş İli Onikişubat İlçe merkezine bağlı ortaokullarda görev yapan 20 sosyal bilgiler öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma, nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden görüşme yöntemi ile yapılmıştır. Araştırma olgubilim desenine dayalıdır. Veri toplama aracı olarak açık uçlu sorulardan oluşan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler, içerik analizi yöntemi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Verilerin analizi sonucunda, öğretmenlerin sosyal bilgiler öğretim programında yer alan öğrenci merkezli yöntem ve teknikler hakkında yeterince bilgi sahibi olmadıkları; derslerinde en çok öğretmen merkezli etkinlikleri tercih ettikleri ve öğrenci merkezli etkinlikleri az tercih ettikleri; yöntem ve teknikleri uygulamada ve materyalleri temin etmede çeşitli sorunlarla karşılaştıkları ve bunlarla baş etmede çeşitli girişimlerde bulundukları; sosyal bilgiler derslerinde yöntem ve tekniklerin daha etkili kullanılabilmesi için sosyal bilgiler sınıfı açılması, öğretmen ve öğrencilerin derse hazırlıklı gelmeleri, yöntem ve tekniklerle ilgili hizmet öncesi ve hizmet içi eğitimlerdeki niteliğin artırılması, gezi ve gözlem gibi sınıf dışı etkinliklerin artırılması, konuların günlük yaşamla ilişkilendirilmesi, zümre toplantılarının yapılması, öğrencilerin daha etkin olmalarının sağlanması gibi önerilerde bulundukları belirlenmiştir.

In Turkey, social studies curriculum has been implemented according to student-based activities and construcitivist approach since 2005. In order to provide the effectiveness of both theoretical and practical aspects of the curriculum, teachers should have enough knowledge about student-centered activities and familiarise the curriculum. The purpose of this study is to determine teachers’ views toward the application of teaching methods and techniques taking part in social studies curriculum. The sample of the study consists of total of 20 teachers working in secondary schools placing in the centre of Kahramanmaraş City Onikişubat District. The study was conducted by interview method as a qualitative research. The study is based on phenomenological design. An interview form including open-ended questions was used to collect data. The data was analysed by using content analysis method. At the end of the data analysis it is determined that, the teachers don’t have enough knowledge about the teaching methods and techniques; they prefer teacher-centered methods and techniques instead of student-centered ones; they face various problems while applying the methods and techniques and supplying the required materials and they try to cope with these problems; they recommend some suggestions such as opening classrooms which are specific to social studies lessons for better activities, students’ and teachers’ preparations for the lessons, increasing the quality of preservice and inservice education about the methods and techniques, enhancing the rate of out of class activities such as field trips and observation, correlating the subjects with the daily life situations, organizing meeting with the colleagues, and making students more active in classroom.
