Abstract:

In 2004 Primary education curriculum, the subject called Science and Technology is named as Sciences in the primary school 3rd and 4th grades with the acceptance of 4+4+4 application, and is decided to put into practice gradually. The purpose of this study is to determine the classroom teachers’ knowledge level of the concepts that are included in the curriculum of Sciences, and to determine their proficiency perceptions towards the applicability of the curriculum. Qualitative research method is adopted in the study. The research has been practiced on 295 classroom teacher candidates studying in their junior and senior years in two universities in Eskişehir. Criterion sampling is used while choosing the teacher candidates. For this reason, criteria adopted in this study are the teacher candidates’ studying primary school teaching programs, having taken at least one lesson related to science teaching, and participating in the study voluntarily. The data of the study is collected in written form with an interview form that consists of 8 questions. The data is resolved with descriptive analysis technique. According to the findings, it is proved that the candidate primary school teachers’ knowledge level of the concepts that are included in the Science curriculum is not proficient; however, they think they are capable and the curriculum is applicable.
